Canadian band Scythia just debuted their new single, "Bear Claw Tavern," with this awesomely goofy video about dwarfs, wizards, and — of course — drinking. Guaranteed to be more fun than the new Hobbit movie.
I mean, I actually loved the first Hobbit movie, even when they met that goblin with balls on his face. And I'm excited about Smaug and shit. But seriously, this video has everything. Plus, it's not three hours long, which helps.
I have to share the email that the record label sent to io9, just because it's so peppy:
Do you fancy yourself a jolly good time with a mischievous dwarf? Perhaps whilst downing a few cold brews with some fun-loving medieval ruffians? Throw in some powerful, folk-driven heavy metal to make the experience even better, and you've transported yourself to a mystical world by way of SCYTHIA's new music video for 'Bear Claw Tavern'!
The old world-themed music video, directed by fantasy movie director Richard Olak and filmed at the Storm Crow Tavern in the band's hometown of Vancouver, BC, is an uproarious three-minute scorcher featuring the band rocking out in a medieval tavern filled with hooligans and mysterious characters. The video also features a dwarven troublemaker that gets himself into hot water when he decides to irritate a 'wizened' old man.
'Bear Claw Tavern' is the first single cut from the band's upcoming melodic, power/folk fusion record, …Of Conquest. The album, which also includes progressive and death metal influences, is engineered/produced by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Halcyon Way, Svarsot) at LSD Studios in Lubeck, Germany, with co-production by Shaun Thingvold (Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God, Fear Factory). The album is mixed by Nino Laurenne (Ensiferum, Wintersun, Kiuas, Firewind) at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland. Mastering credits go to Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Firewind, Korpiklaani,Apocalyptica) at Chartmakers in Helsinki, Finland.
Just in case you need more wizards and dwarfs, the album comes out in February 2014.
h/t Rob Bricken, from whom I stole the joke about face balls.
