After a few quieter weeks in TV land, we have two scifi premieres airing this week. Check out the goods on Helix, the Arctic outbreak thriller that promises to be one of this year's most exciting shows. Almost Human (8 PM, Fox)
When you're involved in a life-or-death situation, the last thing you need is for your android partner to malfunction:
Det. Kennex and Dorian investigate Simon (guest star David Dastmalchian), a psychopathic killer who is strapping bombs to his victims' neck and broadcasting their final moments over the internet. When Simon targets Kennex, the team is in a nail-biting race against time to save his life. Meanwhile, a power deficiency affects Dorian's energy level, causing him to have unexpected outbursts.
Teen Wolf (10 PM, MTV)
The second half of season three will introduce a brand new creature in the wake of the alpha packs disbandment: the Japanese fox spirit known as the Kitsune. But will this trickster prove friend or foe?
"The Magical Place" — Coulson uncovers vital information about the mystery of his death, but, with Centipede out for blood, this knowledge may come at the cost of one of the team.
Intelligence (9 PM, CBS)
We weren't huge fans of this pilot when it screened at Comic-Con, but fans of Josh Holloway may enjoy his turn as Gabriel, a cybernetically enhanced government agent. Once Upon a Time's Meghan Ory co-stars as Riley, the Secret Service agent tasked with protecting Gabriel from enemy threats and his own reckless behavior.
Gabriel and Riley must rescue the kidnapped member of CyberCom who invented the chip implanted in Gabriel's brain before the top-secret technology falls into the wrong hands. Meanwhile, Gabriel takes advantage of his chip to search for his wife who disappeared years ago.
Person of Interest (10 PM, CBS)
Person of Interest returns after a major cliffhanger:
Multiple enemies converge on the POI team as they protect a dying man with a connection to Finch's past whose number has come up. They struggle to keep their enemies at bay without Reese, who has left the team and their mission behind following the tragic war with HR. However, being down one man could have catastrophic repercussions for the team.
When Miles leads Monroe (David Lyons) and Rachel (Elizabeth Mitchell) south of the border; they're met with much more than they bargained for as Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) and Julia (Kim Raver) dance a delicate dance. Meanwhile, Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and Gene (Stephen Collins) continue their search for Aaron (Zak Orth).
Nova (9 PM, PBS)
Nova kicks off its 41st season with an exploration of alien worlds—especially those that could harbor life.
American Horror Story: Coven (10 PM, FX)
American Horror Story gets the guest it deserves in "The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks":
Fiona attempts to out the new Supreme with a visit from Stevie Nicks. Cordelia learns the truth about Hank and the Witch Hunters. Madison tries to eliminate her competition for the Supremacy.
Community (8 PM, NBC)
Now that Community has made a triumphant return, it looks like Annie will be testing out those forensic science skills again in "Basic Intergluteal Numismatics":
A BRAZEN BANDIT INVADES GREENDALE - SURREPTITIOUSLY DROPPING COINS DOWN THE BACKS OF PEOPLE'S PANTS - Everyone is up in arms when an anonymous bandit starts dropping coins down people's pants. While Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) mobilizes the school to investigate, Jeff (Joel McHale) and Annie (Alison Brie) pursue their own theories - methodically interrogating staff members. When someone eventually confesses, the school heaves a sigh of relief, but Jeff thinks there is more to the story than meets the eye.
Grimm (9 PM, NBC)
A war between Wesen street gangs spells trouble for our Grimm:
Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) are called to the scene of a gang-related homicide. The case escalates as Zuri (guest star Sharon Leal), Hank's physical therapist, and her brother get caught up in the investigation. Meanwhile, Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) seeks advice from Rosalee (Bree Turner) in dealing with the news that her friend is Wesen.
Helix (10 PM, SYFY)
If you tune in for just one show this week, make it the premiere of Syfy's new series Helix. Based on the pilot, we think this thriller about researchers in the Arctic handling a mysterious outbreak is Syfy's best show in years We're hoping this one turns out to be our new scifi obsession.
