Every David Cronenberg Movie, Described in Startling Detail

If you need a primer — or even a graduate-level course — on David Cronenberg, look no further than the excellent retrospective at UGO. Each movie, even his most obscure, is lovingly detailed and mined for the "most Cronenbergy" moments. [UGO]

  • dear god it's like the perfect three king's day gift direct from io9 and UGO to me

  • i love DC but IMO he has been steadily moving away from horror and moving into idol seeking dramas since Spider. i would love if he would return to horror/scifi films.

  • Fantastic! I have to revisit those weird b-movies he made back in the late 70s. Beautiful stuff... ! just heard that he was originally slated to direct Basic Instinct 2--which would have been sort of a sequel to Crash. @tetracycloide: Is it really Three Kings Day? shouldn't there be a parade outside my window?

  • @the memorexe: technically it was yesterday

  • Once, when I was in college, my girlfriends and I brought back to the dorm Friday night a bunch of rented videos. Everyone picked out one, and I chose eXistenZ. That was the last time they let me pick out a Friday night movie.

  • The Fly. That was a worthy remake. Thank god Cronenberg made it.

Is it wrong for me, a heterosexual male, to admit I was turned on by Goldblum's gymnastic routine?

  • I've seen Videodrome once...and I was half asleep from staying up all night at the time. If Cronenberg can screw with my head that much in that state, I don't think I'm prepared for what he could do to me fully awake.

  • Great synopses, although I gotta take issue with the review of eXistenZ. That flick nailed the "what is reality?" theme, extrapolating it out to more decimal places than any film in recent memory. Gore and goofiness aside, eXistenZ was the first and only movie to explore visually what it would actually be like to go into a virtual world. No swirling vortex, no pixie dust, just a two-phase non-sequitur cut followed by a look of utter confusion on Jude Law's face. Perfect.

Comparing "eXistenZ" unfavorably to "Total Recall" is, well, evidence of impaired recall.
