Dean Shorey built this car, based on the Vipers from Battlestar Galactica, by hand. (It looks like old Battlestar, not new.) Corey's not the only fan to have customized his car into a starfighter out of science fiction shows or movies. Click through for more fan-pimped vehicles, including a gallery.
My favorite SF car, besides Corey's, is Katie Horn's Red Five X-wing car. It started out as an early 90s Toyota Tercel, then she gave it a new base coat of paint and then spray-painted on X-wing markings. But what puts her car over the top is the blast marks she spray-painted on.
There's also Shawn Crosby's A-wing car, which has been featured in Wired. Another fan turned his pick-up truck into an X-wing fighter, complete with R2DT in back. And then there was the Fiat that someone tricked out as a Hoth ice cruiser and tried to sell on eBay for $40,000.
Unfortunately, Star Trek fans have fallen short in the pimped-out cars category. The main Trek car seems to be the Seven Of Nine Car, which has a model of the Starship Voyager on its hood and pics of Jeri Ryan all over the body. Must try harder, Trek fans. Where are the cars with warp nacelles?

Wow, that photo on top of the BG fighter is freakin sweet!
It actually could be from either Battlestar series, since that type of Viper is on the new series as well.
Oh, god, I am lame.
What, no time traveling DeLoreans?
If you are going to do this you need a car with a cheesy digital dash: Early C-4 Vette, 80's 280ZX (it talks too!) or something like that to match the special effects of the time (for Star Wars at least).
Last time I was in LA, I saw the A-Wing car. That was cool, since I make it to LA once every few years.
If the girl next to the Tercel is even remotely cute underneath that flightsuit, she's going to make some geek VERY happy.
@EBone: Click on one of the links for Toyota Tercel in my post, and you can see a good pic of her.
I've seen the Battlestar Galactica car in person. It resides in Rochester, NY. For awhile, it was parked inside of SeaBreeze near the Arcade and Bobsled Run.
Here's the H-Wing car, complete with R2 in the back!!

.....sigh.....
Oh hey, it's Shawn's A-wing. I like totally know that guy. And I wish I had a dime for every time I've said, "Oh hey, it's Shawn's A-wing. I like totally know that guy," while looking at the internet.
T.I.E. fighter truck would be cooler.
@Dr.Danger: That Toyota concept that was on Jalopnik awhile back would be a good starting place. AND a use for that fugly truck.
So is the Viper built from scratch or was it once an actual car?
In the H-fighter's homepage gallery there's a pic of it parked with what appears to be a black '82 Toyota Supra with machine guns mounted on it. Any info on that??
I agree - those blast marks are the detail that takes it a new level.
As far as Star Trek goes, I saw a small pickup truck with a cap on the bed done up to look like a Next Generation shuttle craft a couple of years ago, but unfortunately I didn't have a camera on me at the time.
Call me an old-fashion purist, but I am still waiting for someone to visualize billionaire Johann Sebastian Bach Smith's chauffered armored Rolls-Skoda from I Will Fear No Evil by Robert A. Heinlein. Doesn't fly; has passenger crash-webbing to beat contemporary airbags when under assault. What more could one ask for...?
More Tercels should be painted like X-Wings with blast marks. Actually, a lot of cars would look good like that: VW Type I, C4 Corvette, 3rd-Gen Pontiac Trans Am (especially if you mix it up with some K.I.T.T. action)...
That X-Wing Tercel is over in west Seattle, i used to see it everyday going to middle school on the bus.
The top car old school Battlestar car is insane.....
All look suitable for pegging Womp Rats back home.

@Mikael: Actually, Red-5 (the Tercel) is in Southern California now. I'm good friends with the original owner and I bought it from her about a year ago. It was having some mechanical problems, and she was going to have to get rid of it. I bought it so that it would be spared from the scrap heap.
It's now lovingly in storage awaiting further modification when either she or I get more money/free time.

No warp nacelles yet, but my Prius-class Starfleet shuttlecraft may be viewed at [www.willieyee.info]
