Hasbro is going to release a 14-inch model of the Cloverfield monster, which will undoubtedly be one of the strangest toys ever made by the company known for G.I. Joe and Transformers. It'll cost a hundred bucks, and will feature over 70 "points of articulation," along with authentic sound effects, 10 parasites (alleged leaked photo of one here), two interchangeable heads (insert theories here), and a Statue of Liberty accessory head. Plus, it won't be out until September. Oh, and to protect against spoilerifaction, Hasbro has no photos of this hundred-dollar baby on its order site. Admittedly, we thought this was a fairly ridiculous idea for a toy... just before we pre-ordered one. [Variety]

Too bad that doesn't look like the monster...
That looks way more Lovecraftian than anything in the movie. But I already have a 22-inch Cthulhu model.
Too bad I stopped caring a week ago.
Wow, I've been seriously one-upped. Someone makes a $3,800 Cthulhu statue that's almost eight feet tall: [www.nethercraft.com]
!
I hope it doesn't look like the monster, I wasn't able to see it last week but plan to see it this weekend. I have been avoiding all talks about the monster so that better not be it!
No photos before pre-order = no pre-order from me.
great, now we need a policy for 'alleged' spoilers
@SirTomster: If you've been avoiding it you probably should avoid the front page of io9 entirely (maybe just check the RSS).
that ain't the crab: that's a picture of the "Dagon" action figure from SOTA's Lovecraft-inspired action figures:

similar "spoiler" photos of the creature featured another figure in the line, the great sleeping KHLUHLOO [www.sotatoys.com]
That toy doesn't look like the monster at all. By the way the movie was actually pretty good! ;)
Is that supposed to be the "mother"?
That picutre is Dagon from the SOTA toys Nightmares of Lovecraft Series from a couple of years back.

That is not at all what the monster looks like, not even close actually, and Hasbro hasn't even released any imagery of what the toy looks like.
Dunno what that is, but it's misleading.
I would expect the writers here that have seen the film to be able to see the difference between the monster on the film and that toy. There's no way you guys think that's really it, do you?
That's definitely the SOTA Toys Dagon. I have one sitting atop my TV set. :)
Attention geniuses who have seen the film and are complaining that that doesn't look like the monster, that's meant to be one of the "parasite" creatures that were attached to the main monster's body. And no, it doesn't look like the parasites from the movie because it's noted that there will be ten different types in the collection. Some I suppose that were not shown in the film. Lordy, am I the only person who passed basic reading comprehension here?
Not the monster.
Enjoyable movie, despite getting motion-sick. That's only happened to me once before.
As @Agro points out, Kevin never claimed that was the monster. And his post expressed a healthy degree of skepticism that that weird-looking thing is even part of the toy set, which it sounds like it isn't. I actually think we've been very good about not revealing the monster's appearance on our front page. Part of our mission here on the blog is to have cool-looking images with every post, so at some point you have to cut us a teeny bit of slack to post images that are relevant to a story without worrying that they might possibly depict a minor detail from a movie that's been out for five days. We're being super careful about spoilers, but we also want the blog to look cool and interesting.
That's actually a photo of something I found in my shoe this morning.
Thank you fro spoiling a little of the movie for me, but not too much.
@Kevin Kelly: You mean an ALLEGED photo of something you found in your shoe.
Looks like ... I don't know... Is that really the thing in the movie? Nevertheless I think it's really awesome looking.
@charliejane: A fair explanation. But really, anyone who's seen the movie will know that isn't from it, so including a picture of a toy for the sake of looking cool seems a bit pointless.
I hope you don't continue to place awesome pictures above genuine content... I think this blog has excellent potential, but you carry on making rookie mistakes and write articles with poorly researched information in them.
I think your mission statement needs shaking up a bit. But I honestly have faith.
Is Cloverfield trying to win me over? I love it when the monster has a surprise head!!! That sounds awesome!
Well, as we all know with the Transformers series, REUSE REUSE ABUSE THE TOY MOLDS + RECOLORS.
MOM?!
@charliejane: slack intended. i point out the company of origin b/c that thing is awesome looking and some folks here might be interested in owning it.
PS i think the crabs were scarier than the big'un. but they were all sort of awesome.
