This is a total eclipse of the sun by Saturn, as seen by NASA's Cassini space probe. I totally want this image painted on black velvet. This famous image is just one of the photos that Cassini Imaging Team leader Carolyn Porco showed off during her talk about Saturn and its moons, now online at TED. [TED, via Runaway Pancake]

Pretty but i'm tired of seeing these Nasa images that look like something I can do and have done in Photoshop. I dont like the fact that they doctor them so much.
@justaj: but, but... they're amazing T_T
dig the space porn tag
@justaj: doctored space photos? weak!
@justaj: It's not that they doctor them much, it's that the instruments (AKA a camera) are now THAT good. I think this is a mosaic of a hundred or so pictures.
It's one of my favorites.
thats an amazing image. saved. thanks.
Ahhh Saturn. Still the most awesome looking planet in the Solar System. I saw that pic a while back, and I still love it.
Such wonders in our own back yard...
actually it's not even visible from our backyard. we'd never ever see this because it's taken from the point of view of the cassini satelite on the far side of the planet.
@Simon Piper: I think he meant backyard as in solar system neighborhood....
@justaj: But I bet you love how "they" doctor the Maxim girls. :-)
/set as wallpaper
@Simon Piper: Um, What irismr said...
