Can I just make a quick request to io9 - Is their any chance you can pay more attention when posting videos/enact a policy where by they aren't set to auto-play, it's often quiet jarring for it to begin playing right away, and can bring my browser to a crawl at inopportune moments.

That said, I'm enjoying these Found Footage articles a good deal, but I'd like to see something less sexual for the next one. Make it so.

Yes, I say this is more horror than sci fi, because it glories in the red stuff far more than any bit of the "alien" plotline.

@thethrizzle: Wasn't the particularly nasty birth scene in one of the sequels though? I seem to remember the woman being pinned down by glass while her pregnancy accelerated, right?

@Plague: And I agree that it's certainly more of an horror movie, but I suppose even the smallest aspect of science fiction is enough to warrant it's posting here - which is good, it's nice to see this place expanding it's horizons a little.

@PriorMarcus: This is a known bug -- the videos don't autoplay for me in Firefox, and they aren't supposed to play unless you click on them. The tech team is working on it, though -- you're not the first person to have this problem.

There's also one in AVP2 (horrible movie, I know) with alien oral sex...

@Annalee Newitz: Good to hear it's being looked in too, just to add to your understanding of the issue I'm using Firefox too, so I doubt it's a browser issue. Still, like I said, interesting article all the same.

God this movie really disturbed me as a kid with that birth scene. I will not be watching the clip.

Didn't "Species 2" have an explosive (if unsuccessful) birthing scene?

yeah, species 2 two did have a racy sexy scene. They started off as two innocent looking humans and then homeboy cocooned them in some translucent orb of light and they changed into freaky monsters. I love how the black dude with the mutated blood anti virus whatever stabbed himself in the leg and then stabbed freaky alien guy. Off on another tangent I go...

Wow. That was the worst thing I've ever seen. I'm a little stoned, but that last scene especially freaked me out. Funny, though. But oh damn.

@Macloserboy: It's one of the first movies I remember being super creeped out by when I was a kid too. I couldn't even read about it in Twilight Zone magazine it was so scary.

Yeah there have been a few western scifi/more horror flicks that tackle this weird alien/too large birthing thing but as one would expect it's got it's own subcategory in j-animation and manga and as would be expected it explores the concepts in way too disturbing a depth.
Don't even get me started on the alien impregnation of a human female thing they've got going on over there. At least that one seems to have finally burnt itself out (from what little I can tell in the american midwest via as much time for internet wandering as I have.)

I remember another film, but about intra-terrestrials... ;P IIRC, it was called 'Humaniods from the Deep'. But I can't remember if the thing birthed was huge or not.

This was a favorite horror movie when I was in Junior High. I remember the poster, with a pic of a kid & a monster, and the ad copy said something like "David is just like his father..."

Yeah this is bad, but the Japanese have corned the sci-fi / horror / impregnantion thing to great success.

I certainly can't view hoses the same without imagining them birthing the seed of the worlds destructor; who will change for some reason every time a new studio sits down to write the next movie.

Oh yeah and vaginas with teeth. Long history of that.
