Colombian architect Giancarlo Mazzanti was commissioned to build a new modern library in Santo Domingo. But instead of making the facade a shiny, multi-dimensional steel thing that stuck out like a sore thumb, he created these three giant artificial rocks. It's a kind of urban-Stonehenge look, mixing ancient paganism with the ultra-modern.
The rocks are super modern inside, and constitute a library, a community center, and a cultural center. Here's how to look cool without being tacky or over-the-top. Images by Sergio Gómez

I thought that said "mixing ancient plagiarism..."
Sweet.
All the old people that time forgot living in that town must just hate the things.
That's pretty cool, actually.
Kudos, Giancarlo Manzatti! Kudos!
Those look awesome. If they turned an entire village into a mini Bedrock they could make a killing on tourism.
judging from the number of windows i'd say that's a government office building
I like it. I want to study there.
¿Dónde está la biblioteca?
how do huge faux-rocks stick out less than metal shiny structures?
@superbryant88:
By sucking in their stomachs?
By wearing baseball caps and sunglasses?
By driving a Camry or a Civic?
By only raising their hands when everyone else does?
Erosion?
@superbryant88: well shiny metal structures are... shiny... is this a trick question?
Three cheers for Colombian architecture!
"Here's how to look cool without being tacky or over-the-top."
Oh snap! Take that, Dubai...
@superbryant88: They are not shiny, drab metal looking structures. And are not those ugly post-futuristic glass buildings. They look different, but fit into the foresty areas, since giant rocks are natural occurances.
