We were already kind of un-thrilled about Knowing, which stars Nicholas Cage as a professor (with Tourette's syndrome) who digs up a time capsule that can predict the future. But new details make it sound even less exciting. Rose Byrne (above) plays the daughter of the woman who buried the capsule in 1962, and she starts to remember strange events from her childhood after Cage contacts her. Not only does the box predict the Kennedy assassination and the death of Cage's wife, it also claims an apocalypse is happening within the week. The movie's plot sounds a lot like Isaac's clairvoyant paintings from Heroes, plus the fact that Alex (I Robot) Proyas is directing may be a bad sign. [Hollywood Reporter]

Rose Byrne is a knockout. Loved her in Sunshine too.
Knock Proyas for I Robot, but remember this man gave us Dark City.
Yeah, she was awesome in Sunshine :)
Sad to see her working with The Cage, though :(
@JaiMak: I prefer to remember him for The Crow.
Turette's? WTF? Here's how the pitch must have gone:
Studio head: "Hmm, I like the contrived plot, and heck who doesn't like Nick Cage in action/sci fi movies, but somethings missing..."
Writer: "We could give him Tuerett's"
Studio head: "Sold."
If it was Rose Byrne starring in a feature length film called. "Girl Does Nothing for Two Hours" I'd still watch it.
@augie1:
you're missing the important part.
he does it all...IN A BEAR SUIT.
@augie1: Agreed. the Tourette's is a nice touch.
Someone needs to ban Nick Cage from Hollywood. Forever.
Proyas has been coasting on props for The Crow and Dark City forever.
Neither of which was actually any GOOD, once you get past the nice set design.
But, like that abomination I, Robot (which made cash because of Will Smith), this will make money because of Nic Cage.
Well, the first weekend, at least.
@edosan: LOL that made my day.
@Garrison Dean: I'm sold! She was also good in 28 Weeks Later.
Also, as long as you try not to associate it with anything Asimov, I, Robot was pretty entertaining IMHO.
NOT THE BEES! AAAAUGH
@Garrison Dean: Would most likely be better than this movie. I'm in!
ever time i try to think about this movie my mind says 'time-capsule that predicts the future' and reboots.
it's like nick has some sort of plot mad libs book for all of his movies. what's next? a movie about a 'hair dryer'(noun) that can 'teleport'(verb) and causes a 'stock market crash'(natural dissaster) which nick trys to stop while overcoming 'lupslipophobia' (irration fear or strange condition).
@tk.: @PVIII: It ain't sci-fi, but you should really watch Damages if you hadn't been. Nuthin but Rose Byrne and Glen Close, who lets face it, is pretty sexy herself.
@Garrison Dean: I loved Damages - Rose is smokin in that too. Renewed for two more seasons too!
@Plague: I agree with you on The Crow, but Dark City is an excellent scifi film. The set design is so good it threatens to eclipse the great performances (especially by Sutherland) and the excellent cinematography - so good that much of it was re-used for The Matrix (along with some of the camera work, but that's another story).
Incidentally, it looks like Proyas is also a writer on an adaptation of The Tripods (from the BBC series). [imdb.com]
@eirenicon:
yes and yes to your points.
But in the end, there was no "there" there.
Completely hollow story.
How can you not like Alex Proyas? Dark City is one of the best movies ever.
