Smallville will try to imitate Lost — which will be doing something completely different. Meanwhile, Doctor Who is visiting more alien planets and showcasing radically different alien monsters in its fourth season. - Another huge batch of Doctor Who spoilers, this time from Doctor Who Magazine, confirm a lot of our spoilers from yesterday. As you may have gathered, that old newspaper seller from the Christmas special will be back as Donna's friend (uncle?), and we also meet Donna's mom. In the second episode, set in ancient Pompeii, there are rock monsters. In the Sontaran episode, their leader is General Staal. [Angel Fire East]
- The March 27 episode of Smallville will borrow from Lost and feature flashbacks, this time to the era when Lionel Luthor, the Teagues, the Queens and Swann were all working together, in the 1980s. We'll see Robert Queen, Young Oliver Queen and Young Patricia Swann. Genevieve Teague will appear, but Jane Seymour won't play her. The headline we saw back in Smallville's first episode, about the CEO of Queen Industries going missing, will factor into this. Chloe will confront Lionel about his true motivations, and so will Lex and Lois. Also, Brainiac is back, and he's got Kara. The episode, which was designed as a possible season finale (thanks to the writers' strike) but actually isn't one, will explore the Smallville mythos in detail. - Next week's Jericho follows straight on from this week's shock ending. Mimi is in the hospital, and Aasif Mandvi from The Daily Show is frantically operating to save her life. But Jake and his men have to protect her from Goetz, who wants to silence her any way he can. So Jake and his Rangers wind up barricaded in the hospital. And then the following week, Major Beck finally decides to prove he's not a total push-over, taking extreme measures to regain control over Jericho. If you guys don't use a image of Scorpy whispering to Crichton as a Morning Spolier Image, I might cry.
Remember what I said about pulling your head out of the ass of Lost? Well, it's not the first show to have flashbacks, so please stop acting like it is. If anything this, plot development is a result of being totally eclipsed as a supehero show by Heroes. You know, that show with flashbacks where the families of the various heroes were once working together? To paraphrase 10 Things I Hate About You: "Remove head from sphincter, then write!"
@Macloserboy: whereas you probably have a semi-valid point, when one has literally just read about flashbacks being used in Lost 2 paragraphs ago, i think you can probably let it go as 'writer's license' - i'm pretty sure nobody here thinks Lost has patented the flashback-as-plot-device.
@Macloserboy: It was the first show to use Flashbacks as a consistent story-telling device, week in, week out, starting with the very first episode. Heroes S2 ratings are on average about 3-4 million viewers short of LOST S4 to date.

@Macloserboy: Nobody acts like Lost is the first show with flashbacks. You're just obviously defensive about ... well, everything you don't like. Also, just letting you know, Lost isn't a "superhero show" like Heroes.
@Hart: Exactly, so to attribute Smallville's utilization of a device to a dissimilar show rather that a similar one proves my point. Geeks aren't geeks because they can look at the things they love objectively. They obviously love Lost here so if any other scifi/fantasy show uses a flashback, well then it's just gotta come from Lost.

And Lost is actually a good show, unlike Heroes.
@Macloserboy: If geeks want to cite something in their genre's pantheon why not let them and chill out? If I saw a sequence in a sci fi movie of soldiers walking down stairs, I could say, hey that's something Gilliam did in Brazil! I don't have to go back to the Battleship Potemkin. Get off it.

Tron without Lebowski, Sheridan and Lacey Underall is not a Tron movie I want to see.
@PVIII: Perhaps you should try watching Forever Knight or Highlander: The Series, to cite just two examples of previous genre shows which used flashbacks "week in, week out"...
