We're pretty sure there was never an episode of Doctor Who in the 1970s where Leela, the barbarian warrior, pulls out her giant knife and slices the Doctor's clothes off... and the Doctor turns out to be a woman. And then Leela loses her jungle bikini and they both end up wearing nothing but panties and the Doctor's scarf. The only place you can see that scenario play out is at a burlesque show like the Pinchbottom Burlesque, which is taking the love of science fiction to a whole new level. Click through for a gallery (maybe NSFW) and details.
The demented Doctor/Leela scene is just one of the scenarios that plays out in Naked Planet, the science fiction burlesque show from New York troupe Pinchbottom Review. In another scene, Anita Cookie dresses as a hot Vulcan ensign on Star Trek, before stripping down to just two Starfleet insignias (covering her nipples) and a G-string. There's a super complicated plot about an evil galactic empire and rebels searching for an exiled burlesque queen on the Naked Planet, but really the set pieces are what make it awesome. Here's a quote from Nasty Canasta, who plays the Doctor in the above scene:
"I'm not only a burlesque performer, I'm also a card-carrying geek," says Nasty Canasta, "So it just made sense to combine the two passions." When asked to prove her statement, Nasty named all ten actors who played the "The Doctor" in long-running British television show Doctor Who before delivering a point-by-point comparison of every Star Trek captain and hazarding a guess about the identity of the last human Cylon.Nasty Canasta also dressed up as the Tenth Doctor and stripped at another show (Image by Veegee):

Ah.. putting the "Box" in Police Public Call Box.
I want, no NEED, a cosplay burlesque show.
Now.
I think combining boobs and sci-fi is like the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of life, as far as I'm concerned.
I saw the Suicide Girls burlesque show a few years back, and while they didn't do any really sci-fi skits, the Napoleon Dynamite one was very very very very memorable.
@Plague: I need Cosplay Strippers. This Burlesque trend is child's play for chubby chasers.
Janet Fielding, who played Teagan, liked to tell a story about how she kept falling out of her very nice dress while filming "Enlightenment."
During one scene, she was following Peter Davidson's Doctor around while he was on one of his famously fast-talking speeches, when (as directed) he spun around to deliver a bit of dialogue to her and, in-character, added "And Teagan, please put your boobs back in your dress" before continuing on his way.
Janet Fielding hated the BBC costume department.
... How can something so wrong be so right?
I learn new and disturbing things about myself almost daily, I swear.
@Garrison Dean:
Baby steps, GD. Baby steps...
@Plague: I've just never been the same since they shut down Crazy Girls. It's the real reason I left.
Aww man. You pulled the gallery! Anyone got a link to more of this?
@IgG4: The gallery's there. Let me know if you can't see it!
I have problems with it; in Firefox, I'm just reverted to the front page if I click an image. In IE, there is no gallery at all!
Best. Pasties. Ever.
It's there now, but I had the same issue as jbq initially.
Looks like a fun show!
@jbq: OK, I wasn't having a problem with the gallery... but my attempts to reload it so it would work for you appear to have made it go away... it'll be back in 5 minutes, and then hopefully it'll work for everyone!
@IgG4: So it's working for you now? It seems to be okay on my browser(s).
Sure is, excellent!
Yup!
Looking good, thanks!
The Doctor and Leela may not've stripped each other, but Jo Grant did cavort naked with a Dalek.

NSFW, obviously.
@Charlie Jane Anders: No, wanting to be "retro hip" and not "horny" as unattractive women take almost all their clothes off is gay. Burlesque is the flag football of the erotic world.
@SeanOHara: now that is good Dr. Who nudity, thanks.
@SeanOHara: Yeah, I love those pics!
i'm kind of squeeing right here right now.
boobies and genderfuck and hard core nerding? aww yeah.
Hey, I saw Naked Planet! Nasty and/or whoever helps write the skits definitely have strong geek cred. There were some references even I didn't get.
My dreams have come true.
@Garrison Dean:
It's back.
But it's a lame ass bikini bar like all the other faux "topless" clubs in LA.
Sometimes I'm disgusted with my city.
This is brilliant and awesome, and somebody just now came up with it?
....
I want a Star Trek g-string now....
imagine that dr.Who skit, with the dr. Who tune, NERDGASM!!! (seriously, that tune alone delivers me a nerdgasm)
Just for the record, Tom Baker would have made a very unappetizing woman.
This is strange, and sort of cool, and very, very strange.
-Kle.
Why was I not there in person?!
That's just beautiful! I wish I could see it!
Just knowing that out there somewhere is a Godzilla burlesque show means that I can truly die happy.
