Here's a new clip of awesome train-jumping action, from plague-ravaged thriller Doomsday, which opens Friday. Two more clips below the fold show car-bezerkering, plus Malcolm McDowell giving away what may be a major plot point. In this morning's spoiler roundup, we also have a new hint about the direction of the PG-13 live-action Star Wars TV show, and tons of details about Michel Gondry's demented next film. Plus a look at the tail end of this season of Lost, and what's coming next year on Smallville. Click through to become a jaded, know-it-all spoiler whore.
It sounds as though Rhona Mitra's mission to a plague-quarantined Scotland, to find a cure for the plague which is starting to hit the outside world, may turn out to be futile. Unless, of course, Malcolm McDowell is wrong... which is almost unthinkable.
- In Michel Gondry's next film, Return Of The Ice Kids (not Kings, as previously reported), teenagers invent water that makes you hear music while you drink it. And in one scene, a teenager relives a moment when he made a farting noise with his mouth during an exam, and everyone noticed, so he kept making noises "to cover his nerves," but it sounded like he was covering up a fart. Apparently this actually happened to the teenage Gondry. The kids in the film are "writing a book of peace," and it features some utopian scenes. [MTV movies]
- The live-action Star Wars TV series, which takes place between episodes three and four of the movies, may be about a Sopranos-esque crime family during the rise of the Empire. [IESB]
- Sam Rockwell's space traveler stranded in a moon base is "lonely but not alone," in Moon, the directorial debut of David Bowie's son Zowie, which just finished shooting. [ShockTillYouDrop]
- Lost's ageless island-dweller Richard, played by Nestor Carbonell, will be back in at least one episode later this Spring, and his return leads to "interesting revelations." Also, in one of the season's final five episodes, we meet two Bedouin horsemen and a luxury doorman of "British extraction" in a flash-back or flash-forward... and they may have something to do with the enigmatic Charles Widmore. [Ask Ausiello]
- With Lana missing for much of Smallville season eight, Clark's next love interest may be Lori Lemaris, the mermaid living among people from the comics. Also, season eight will still feature Chloe as a series regular, and may feature a fair bit of no-longer-regulars Lana and Lex too. [Ask Ausiello again]

not sure I like that Star Wars idea...
@SunZhiQian: What, you mean you're not a fucking robot programmed to like things that you've already seen?
@SunZhiQian: After the last few movies, I'm not sure I like *any* Star Wars idea.
Lori Lemaris. Heh. Sadly, that makes me want to watch.
Sorry, didn't listen to Malcolm. Couldn't get past (or through) the poor man's Mad Max.
Im shocked you didnt point out the fact that the Star Wars TV show ALSO will be in the PG-13 realm, and that there absolutely will not be any "Skywalker" family on the show, that George is clear that their story is over.
@SunZhiQian: I KNOW I don't like that Star Wars idea. Surely, if you're going to mine Star Wars for ideas because you're creatively bankrupt, you can come up with something better than Sopranos in Space. Maybe not. I don't have any better ideas right off, but then, I am located at the consumer end of the food chain.
The Star Wars universe is just the setting. Any great story you want could be played out there, for the most part. I think a cop show set on Trantor could be fun.
@MilesFromNowhere - I agree with you there. How about a relatively localized (planetary system in scope) story set in the Star Wars universe, one where the Empire plays a part but isn't necessarily the main antagonist. There are endless possibilities to explore the cultures in different systems. They could even pick a different system to focus on in each season or every couple of seasons.
Indiana Jones Chronicles was a pretty good show. So I still have faith that LucasFilm can pull off this Star Wars TV show. Of course, I kept saying that about each of the prequels too. Lucas has made me a masochist.
Hot Wookie love...
@SunZhiQian: Good. Hollywood; Are you listening? Probably not.
a star wars series that isn't about jedis where everyone and thier mother doesn't have a lightsaber? sure it's a tired concept relative to the rest of TV but this is lucasfilm we're talking about, baby steps people.
i think i'm just latching onto this because it has a very small chance of actually being good...
How is this Doomsday different from Mad Max? Because Max is a chick this time?
You know things are bad in Hollywood when even the trailers are boring.
the gondry movie sounds similar to a novel called "tintagel" by paul cook, where you can actually get so emotionally involved in a piece of music it takes over your life.
I'd like to see some sort of "Tales of the Jedi" kind of show set way before any of the movie events, when the Jedi and the Sith were at their peak. There's no way that show wouldn't make it, even if Lucas was doing the writing.
@SunZhiQian: you mean 'knights of the old rebublic: the series?'
@tetracycloide: You just made me think of the two "Ewoks" films. *Shudder*
@tetracycloide...that'd be it.
I'm beginning to think that IO9 is on the Doomsday payola list.
@Jeff-Minor: Trantor? Do you mean Coruscant? Wasn't Trantor the main planet in the Foundation Trilogy?
Regardless I like your idea. Something like a pre-Ep.4 film noir? Or Law and Order with droids?
I know this would be in a different time period, but I've always wanted a Rogue Squadron series. Just Wedge and the boys doing roguish stuff. It's not going to happen of course.
Lillian27, Yes, I meant Coruscant, but since it's an obvious use of the Trantor idea, I thought I'd give Asimov some due credit. I was thinking something as gritty as Alterd Carbon by Richard K. Morgan. If you like cop stories you might find this one very interesting. I did.
Superman falls in love with a mermaid. I'm pretty sure he'll make that work better than Fry.
@SunZhiQian: That reminds me of those books years ago - Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales From the Cantina, and Tales From Jabba's Palace that told stories about all the minor characters that ended up in various scenes in the background. I would watch a TV show based on that.
@joemono - Exactly! That's the kind of thing I'd like to see.
@vadmspartan: I'm totally with you on this one as well. It was one of my favortie series of books; the comics and the novelization, and I'm so sad to hear its done.
I think a much better series with a lot of fun uninhibited exploration is the knights of the old republic time line.
Best Star Wars idea: George loses control of the franchise.
Malcolm McDowell
wrong!
MADNESS!
@SunZhiQian: I hear ya. Eveybody who has plyaed KOTOR or KOTOR II, knows that you got a great base for a running series!
Hell, steal the damn characters from the game if Lucas is tapped for ideas! Mandalor and Revan would make interesting characters. Shucks, a KOTOR series would even have droids for all the kiddies to latch on to... killer droids hehehehe.
