In 1970, Sylvia Anderson appeared on the Brit chat show "Tomorrow Today" to promote UFO, the new, live-action science-fiction television series produced by herself and husband, Gerry (also the masterminds behind the fabulous Thunderbirds Are GO). Anderson showed a film clip of model Antonia Ellis bopping around London in a women's Moonbase uniform from the series. According to Anderson, the silver micro-mini was perfect workaday wear for the earthbound career girls of the future—after all, "there's nothing to crease, nothing to iron, and everything is replaceable." Just pray you don't have to bend over to pick up a paperclip. Fans of Zolar X might recognize the haircut.

Technically they are the masterminds behind Thunderbirds. Thunderbirds Are Go is the 1966 movie that spun-off from the infamous TV Series. Technically you could argue that your right, but I always prefer to name the road before the intersection.
Hell you could do an entire series of articles about the futurist views of Gerry Anderson and his numerous television series, ranging from the fashion in them to the science and themes behind them.
ZOLAR X rocks so hard I don't even know where to begin.
Kudos to you, Peril!
@PriorMarcus:
and how much damn fun they are.
Take off the skirt and you've got 7 of 9 without the dye job.
(volunteers to take off her skirt)
@Plague: I have to be honest and say that Gerry Anderson is an under appreciated genius in my opinion - I've yet to find a TV Show that equals his for contrasting family friendly fun with stark themes of belonging, war and duty. I've met him four times now and even to this day he strikes me as shockingly intelligent with a genuine love of his craft. Plus New Captain Scarlet was awesome.
@PriorMarcus:
Capt. Scarlet was my fav. Well, next to UFO.
Women in mini-skirts "ready for anything" are yet another unfulfilled promise of a flying-car future. In fact, the only thing futurists have gotten right so far is the soylent green. It's people, you know.
I love UFO. It's so dull, and yet so hypnotic. A friend of mine just gave me all of the episodes he had collected, I think in order to ensure that I wouldn't suggest watching them the next time we got together.
Wow that was precious.
I gotta say, I prefer Criswell's fashion predictions.
I'm somewhere between
"Man, I'd kill to have that be the actual in-fashion thing for the ladies at work"
and
"man, thank god this didn't happen, what with the obesity epidemic and all..."
I'm not sure what that womans "job" consists of, only that I want it.
Crunchy says "she would look better in more earth tones, silver can be so cold and barren like the surface of the moon." Crunchy good monkey, me feed him today.
What about the purple hair?
Interceptors...immediate launch.
Yes I have both seasons on DVD.
I was going to say the Capt. Scarlet was my fave too...
That one was created by Sylvia Anderson, shortly before their marriage went "poof" i think... lol
You could layer a bunch of American Apparel lame pieces and get the same look. It's more future fetish hooker than casual office, but this prediction really wasn't SO off the mark...
Nice leather coat...and thighs...let me rest my head
UFO rocks so hard, Nehru jackets and hot chicks in purple wigs forever!
Let us not overlook this delightful clip of Moonbase commander Lt. Gay Ellis (portrayed by the always-hot Gabrielle "And Brains, Too" Drake), after a hard day's work defending Earth by sending brave pilots to their deaths with perfect enunciation, chatting with a subordinate while she switches her outfit to off-duty mode...

Mmmm... Gabrielle Drake in the early 70s... Mmmm...
And whats up with this picture of "Skydiver operative Georgina Moon" wearing what appears to be the standard see through mesh shirt of the UFO submarine service. Jeez its practically pornographic.

I especially love the slow pan up the model's torso to stop at her breasts, and then a quick cut to the car's headlights popping up...
