Yet Another Former Who Wants Back

tbaker1.jpgProof that Tom Baker knows a bandwagon when he sees one, the former Doctor Who (and Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) remake) star has announced that he, too, would be willing to appear in the next season of the BBC's time-travelling series, if anyone's asking.

Baker, who's definitely "my" Doctor (Even now, I find myself wondering how David Tennant would look in a lengthy scarf, so strong was the impression Baker made on my childhood self), told UK newspaper Kent News that he'd be willing to pretend to be thirty years younger, should the invitation be polite enough:

Perhaps I might make a guest appearance - perhaps. Providing they ask me nicely, of course.
So now we have Baker, Davison... how long before Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy also realize that their careers could do with a bit of a boost?

  • I'm asking!

  • I'd love to see a multiple Doctors special.
    Even something like Christmas Day at Doctor Who's

  • "With nothing to watch but repeats on the telly of Doctor Who, Medics, and that episode of Blackadder II I was on, Lou and Andy go to rent a video."

    Having listened to all the BBC Doctor Who radioplays (which was hatched by some of the minds that eventually moved over to the new TV series - hell, they even lifted some of their own stuff for recycling) I'm all for the other doctors coming back. Two reasons;
    a)"they're too old" naysayers aside, it's not like they're getting any younger. Dye some hair, cake on that make-up, fuzz that lighting, and go for it, I say.

    b) I have no second reason, I just think it's a really good idea and wasn't paying attention when I was typing the first paragraph.

    Oh, here's one - the Sylvester McCoy character got awesome in the radioplays. All the "I'm the guy that's had to make really hard people-will-die decisions" angst in the TV show was lifted from the McCoy radioplays.

  • @Dillenger69
    Ok... that Dr.Who parody video is the best thing i've seen this week on here... lol

  • Still haven't forgiven him for not being in the Five Doctors.

  • yay!!! watched him as a child, most def will want to see him with DT

  • The dude must look pretty different by now. Surely they could cast him as someone other than the Doctor. Wibbly-Wobbly explanations are starting to wear a bit thin.

    Although... like I've theorized before... they have that parallel earth just sitting there. I originally suggested that Paul McGann's Doctor could get some closure by showing up as that reality's Doctor. (The 8th Doctor still, he just hasn't had to regenerate yet in that reality). Anyway, whos to say it couldn't be the 4th Doctor still kicking around in that Universe.

  • Please?
    (Is that nicely enough?)

    @Dillenger69: Bravo.

  • @CaptRavis: That *was* a dick move, wasn't it? That's the first thing I thought of when I saw this article.

    He was flat out awesome in that episode of Black Adder, though, I must say. It's "Potato" if anyone wants to look it up.

  • Maybe he could go back and finish Shada first, and we'll see how that goes...

    [www.bbc.co.uk]

  • It'd be nice if he did an audio adventure or two... Everyone else has.

  • I don't think their careers really need a boost. Colin's been busy in (critically acclaimed and nominated) theater, McCoy was just doing a world tour with Ian McKellen in King Lear, and Tom's had a lot of stuff going on lately, with Monarch in the Glen, and the Little Britain gig.

  • Yep, it is time for another Doctors reunion special.

  • Baker is certainly 'the' Doctor to me, but he must be like 80 or something by now... What's next, Pertwee's re-animated corpse?
    -Kle.

  • so here is a Tom Baker interview of recent vintage:

  • I'd like to see them bring back Eccleston, McGann and McCoy for a reunion episode. Recent doctors, two of whom didn't get their fair shake in the role (granted, Eccleston bailed, but he was still a good Doctor).

  • Please, oh, please, Tom Baker!

    (And if they bring back Eccleston too, my pants might explode.)

  • @castewar: "All the "I'm the guy that's had to make really hard people-will-die decisions" angst in the TV show was lifted from the McCoy radioplays."

    More from the New Adventures novel line (1991-97) than the Big Finish audios, I suspect. Paul Cornell's "Human Nature" two-parter with Tennant was originally a New Adventures novel, and Russell Davies's first Who writing was the New Adventures novel Damaged Goods. The Seventh Doctor is a much darker and more manipulative bastard in the novels than in the audios I've heard so far.
