Fans of Battlestar Galactica's Tahmoh Penikett - the overly-sensitive toaster-lover Helo - shouldn't worry about him disappearing from their scifi screens when that show's final episodes air. He's one of a number of actors who've just been announced for Joss Whedon's new Dollhouse series, set to premiere in the fall on Fox.
Penikett will play Paul Smith, the FBI agent who investigates and acts as quasi-love interest for series star Eliza Dushku. This should give him ample opportunity to do that jaw-clenched "I am a good man in a bad situation" thing that he does so well. The two of them will be joined by relative newcomers Enver Gjokaj and Dichen Lachman, both of whom will play Dushku's fellow programmable "dolls," and Fran Kranz, survivor of both The Village and Welcome to the Captain, taking Whedon's traditional geek savant position.
Dollhouse has a seven episode order, and is expected to begin in the new fall season.

Dollhouse. The gripping new show with more European sounding names than an Ikea catalog.
It's a big world and not everyone in it has a paternal ancestor from England.
When people gush about the brilliance of Battlestar Galactica I like to point out it's most brilliant moment: staying true to its goofiest science fiction origins by having all the female robots be hot blondes and Asians who like to bone guys who look like Baltar and The Chief, truly tapping into the fantasies of their fan base. That Boomer hooked up with Helo is the exception that proves the rule.
Hey now. If you're insulting Mr. Penikett's acting chops, you could at least ding the losers who play Cally and Anders on the way. (GOD. Anders.)
@Macloserboy: Word. Cf. also: Ellen Tigh.
@Gyrus:
Quite...and I like it that way. Just sayin is all. (I'm rather fond of Dushku and Penikett).
Penikett has grown on me. He's a surprisingly good actor. I've been watching BSG Season 3 and
the scene where he kills Athena so she can resurrect on the baseship is pretty intense.
Knowing he's in Dollhouse just makes it even better. Potentially. (I never got into Angel and was rather Tepid about Buffy. Firefly is golden though so there's definite potential).
I liked Buffy before they moved beyond vampires and werewolves.
A 7-episode order?! Way to show the confidence, Fox. WTF is Joss doing with these people?
@Macloserboy: Word. Never thought of looking at BSG from that point of view. True, all robots on BSG are hot. All robots willingly have sex with whomever they choose.
I suppose the Cylons have adopted the idea of free love? Or they've realized how powerful a weapon sex can be.
I <3 Boomer/Athena.
@Chaos Rob: The 7 episode commitment was without seeing a pilot of even a script. They signed up for 7 eps based on an idea and the fact that it was Joss that had the idea. Pretty much unheard of these days.
@tlac: "without seeing a pilot OR even a script."
I hate not being able to edit these posts. grrrr
@Chaos Rob: @tlac: Remember, it's Fox. They'll get all hyped on an idea and then "Prison Break" it to death (see: Arrested Development, Firefly). When you hype a series, then continually move it around, show it at 9 on a Friday night, or pre-empt it for baseball/Prison Break reruns/dogs farting in key, you lose whatever larger audience you might get.
That said, I'm still really excited for Dollhouse. I love me some Joss.
@Ipomoea: Never watched a second of AD. Watched every second of Firefly from the beginning. I'm well aware of how entirely different people under entirely different leadership treated Firefly almost 6 years ago.
I'm also over it.
@CmdrHunt: But did you notice that it's only the female Cylons? You don't see the male models seducing or attempting to seduce female humans. I wonder why they made that choice?
@taxbaby: Did you watch the show? What about the cylon with Starbuck?
@tlac: Aw crap. I admit that I haven't seen a good part of season 2; is there a point in there where Leoben actually tries to seduce Kara? I've only seen the parts at the beginning of season 3, which struck me as a different animal entirely.
@taxbaby: They can't control the cylon baby if the mother isn't with them.
Cally does some of the worst acting on the show, she is so awful, I hope she dies really really soon.
