Bridging the gap between an apparently apocalyptic end to its second season and the potentially-revamped third, sexy alien-hunter show Torchwood is making the jump to radio. A special one-off episode about the secret organization that guards a "temporal rift" in Cardiff will be transmitted on BBC Radio 4 this summer — and it happens to be oddly topical, if you're a science geek.
In the 45 minute episode, to be broadcast in Radio 4's traditional "Afternoon Play" slot, the Torchwood team - portrayed by their television cast - will deal with a mission revolving around a particle accelerator. Why a particle accelerator, you ask? Well, because the episode will be transmitted on the same day as the opening of the world's biggest particle accelerator in Switzerland, and if nothing else, Radio 4 likes to keep up with what's happening in the world.
The episode will be written by Joseph Lidster, who came up with the "A Day In The Death" episode of Torchwood season 2.

This will finally answer that age old question... What is the sound of two men kissing?
Without constant suggestive, pining glances between Tosh and Owen, Gwen and Jack, Ianto and Jack, Owen and Gwen, it just won't be Torchwood.
I'm waiting for when I can mainline episodes.
Jack will fall in love with the giant accellerator at CERN, because it's so suggestive.

I'm expecting ridiculous scaremongering that makes the LHC capable of things both unimaginable, and physically impossible.
I'll tune in for sure! I love radio adaptations of TV shows -- hello Hitchhiker's Guide and The Mighty Boosh! Besides, I have a feeling the special effects I have in my head are probably better than the ones they show on the TV show.
Anyone for a Radio 4 adaptation of a Mr. Iain M. Banks' novella, The State of the Art?
Due to be broadcast 'later this year', apparently. Is this the first dramatisation of any of Mr. Banks' science fiction stuff? I can't remember anything else...
so now i'm expected to masturbate to a radio show?
Speaking of CERN, here's a cartoon about the accelerator

Oh dear, Bonniegrrl... I hate to break it to you, but the Hitchhiker's Guide TV show was an adaptation of the RADIO show, which was the original outing. As were the books, movies, records, etc.
Hi Bonniegirl. The Mighty Boosh was a radio show first. Admittedly,only about three people heard it...
Er, yeah, and so was The Mighty Boosh. The Radio series was the basis of the first season of the TV show. Mind you, Quatermass did go from TV to radio. And the recent Blake's 7 crossover wasn't bad. For Blake'7...
@bonniegrrl: It's ok I'm with you too!
Boosh FTW!
