Learn Who Dies In The Next Smallville!

spoilers4.jpgSpoiler warning! This morning's trove of spoilers is very picture-heavy, for some reason. New pictures show the biggest battle in Iron Man, a uniform from Star Trek, a big fight on Lost, a Decepticon from Transformers 2, and the identity of the person who dies on Smallville. We also have some new hints about Battlestar Galactica, including photos that show what happens to Starbuck. And there's a new Doctor Who trailer, plus some details about season four — and some completely crazy rumors for 2009. This is your last spoiler warning — so spoon up, spoiler junkies!

Iron Man:

Here a few new images of Iron Man's enemy Iron Monger (Jeff Bridges) and his huge battle against Iron Man, which we meant to include on Friday but somehow forgot. [Yahoo Movies]

Transformers 2:

Barricade, the Decepticon who's all about "enslave and protect," will apparently be heavily featured in the second Transformers movie — and there may be two of him. At least, two idential Barricade-marked Saleen Mustangs were spotted on a trailer in Culver City. Supposedly, the script for Transformers 2 isn't done yet — but that probably won't stop Michael Bay from filming it anyway. But why would there be two Barricades? Does he get duplicated? [Jalopnik]

Star Trek:

Here are more of those Star Trek set pics, which include more glimpses of that shuttlecraft (which has seatbelts!) and the gray cadet uniform jacket we've seen glimpses of before. [TrekWeb]

Battlestar Galactica:

Lucy Lawless swore not to drop any Battlestar Galactica spoilers during an interview... and then promptly mentioned that her character, D'Anna, isn't in the second half of the season, now filming. So it sounds as though her Cylon gets disposed of once and for all in the first 10 episodes. [Huffington Post]

And hey, here are some promo pics for the second episode of the season, where it looks like Starbuck's in a spot of bother. [Spoilerscoop]

Doctor Who:

The Doctor Who Christmas special is already written, and it takes place in the Victorian era, with "plum pudding, death and disaster." And now the show is only slated to have two specials in 2009, not three or four as we've previously been told. And Lady Edison, the lady of the house in this season's Agatha Christie episode, has "secrets to keep." Also, producer Russell T. Davies says returning companion Donna Noble is "a little bit older than the Doctor" — but I think he meant the actors' ages, not the characters'. Or did he? [Daily Telegraph]

And hey! Here's the older-than-she-looks Donna now, in another new trailer for season four. Did you know the Doctor was a legend? He is, apparently. Also, David Tennant is "informally committed" to play the Doctor in season five, which airs in 2010. [The Independent]

Meanwhile, here's a completely dodgy rumor: Season four ends with the Doctor splitting into two people (which is why some filming pics showed the Doctor on that beach where he said goodbye to Rose, wearing two different suits.) And one Doctor goes back to the alternate universe (the one with all the zeppelins) with Rose, to save it from something or other. The other Doctor stays in our universe — and then has a botched regeneration, where he swaps bodies with the Master. So David Tennant will play the Master and John Simm will play the Doctor next year, and Absolutely Fabulous comedian Jennifer Saunders will have an important role.[Doctor Who Forum]

Lost:

The Lost season finale features "one of the most spectacular kisses you've ever seen," promises producer Damon Lindelof. [Spoilers Lost]

Some Lost shooting pics have surfaced that show the Santa Rosa Mental Institute, and beardless Jack visiting Hurley, apparently from episode 10 of the show's fourth season. And Jack's dad, Christian, may not actually be dead, since actor John Terry (who plays him) turned up during the filming of some flash-forward scenes set at the St. Sebastian Neurology Clinic. Also on set: Sam Anderson... but apparently he was just visiting with his wife and kids.

Plus, in case you missed it, the first episode after the break is about Locke's camp coming under attack, while Jack tries to identify a mysterious body that washes ashore. Here are some promo pics. [Doc Arzt's Lost Blog]

Smallville:

Who dies in the April 17 episode of Smallville? Well, these photos give a bit of a clue. Whoever it is, both Clark and Lex show up at the sparsely attended funeral. And it looks like the cemetary is in Metropolis. So all signs point to Lionel. And supposedly this is the event that turns Lex bad to the bone. [The TV Addict]Oh, and this trailer that shows Lex pushing his dad out a window might also be a clue. Duh.

    re: Barricades:

Well, one of them probably explodes.

  • 2 Barricades = 1 model for close-ups/"actors" prop, 1 model to wreck in stunts (notice the car on the right has no light bar).

  • @Frozen-Tex: They always have stand ins for cars and people. There was an article in a hot rod magazine a while ago about all the cars they made for "Transformers I" It might have been referenced in Jalopnik, if memory serves..

  • As "Frozen-Tex" pointed out, every movie that features some sort of vehicle that takes center stage, always comes in dublicates. One is a real car, one has attachement points for rigs, one is hollow for prop use, one is for smashing up etc. etc. Many movies are like this, tokyo drift had three of every car the main characters drove. Heck, even the first Herbie (the love bug if you prefer) movie had a dozen identical vw bugs for various uses.

  • That Doctor Who trailer is simply awesome!

  • Ditto. Wouldn't surprise me if there were more Barricades. Can never have too many cars on set. On the Dukes of Hazzard, they used over 300 General Lee's during the course of the series.

  • John Simm as the Doctor? I can dig that.

But that melodramatic trailer blows. I don't get this attempt to make Doctor Who seem so impressively dramatic. He tours around space in a phone booth that hasn't been is use for decades. There's a slap-dash plot device that allows them to change actors at will, and the most menacing monster in the fictional universe looks like a salt shaker and is armed with an egg beater and a plunger.

I loves me some Doctor Who, but let's not get confused about what our source material is.

  • @Chimaera: I hate those bastard producers of "Dukes" for destroying so many copies of a fine automobile. At least "Barricade" is made from a current production car.

  • @braak: One can only hope.

@NefariousNewt: Come on. It's Michael Bey. I'll bet twenty dollars that everything in that movie explodes at least once.

  • @braak: Of course everything will explode. Because it'll be AWESOME!

  • @braak: That is precisely what I would be afraid of... and why I didn't watch the first movie.

  • Image of braak braak at 07:08 AM on 03/31/08 *

@Frozen-Tex: I have to admit that that FiOs commercial made me like Michael Bey a little bit.

    His pool EXPLODES.

  • @braak:

    "Awesome cat!"

  • If you like explosions so much, why aren't you in Iraq?

@ratlas: I have a hereditary neurological condition which prevents me from joining the US Armed Forces.

  • As Frozen-Tex said, it's very common to have a "hero" car for close-ups and one or more stunt cars that may not be fully detailed because they will get blown up or only seen on film in some limited capacity. This doesn't necessarily suggest that Barricade will be featured prominently. Also, wasn't the emblem on Barricade "to punish and enslave"? That's what I see in this close-up.

  • @Frozen-Tex: John Schneider has a General Lee in his barn. He let Tom Welling drive it when Schneider was on Smallville.

  • @braak: survival instinct?

  • I don't want to get all pedantic and Trekkyish, but it doesn't make much sense for the Starfleet cadets to be wearing the classic Trek swoosh on their uniforms. In the original show, that swoosh was an icon specific to the Enterprise; when you saw crews from other ships they wore different insignia. Apparently the Enterprise so distinguished herself under Kirk's command that Starfleet adopted her icon as that of the whole organization. Does this have anything to do with the whole time travel element of the film, or did Paramount just forget they're dealing with one of the most anal fanbases imaginable?

  • @ratlas:
Don't interject political BS into our very important discussions of Dr. Who and Smallville.

Or I'll blow you the hell up.

  • I heard from various places that Jennifer Saunders is very likely to be playing a female Doctor, probably in this year's or next year's Children in Need Doctor Who special. These rumours are also linked with the Doctor's regeneration (like when the doctor could grow back his own arm) ... other things can apparently happen during a regeneration ... and making the Doctor female is a way in which DW explores this further.

@tetracycloide: I was going to say "good sense," but under the circumstances, they might be synonyms.

    @DearEditor:
Superboy-Dukes of Hazzard Elseworld. I am repulsed by my burning desire to see this done now.
Yes, I see it so clearly. Young Clark opening up a six pack of woop-ass on Boss Hog and Cooter, then getting tanked on moonshine with the boys.

  • @Miranda Kali: In an early episode of Smallville Ma dn Pa Kent's email address is shown to be the license plate number of the General Lee. Take that to mean what you like.

What is up with the Usual Suspects ending of that Who trailer? I like the rumor about Simm and Tennant changing roles, that could make some good TV.

In the early episodes of Smallville I really liked the way they kept showing Lex as conflicted about all the shady doings he was in on. It really seems like, from the few episodes I have seen, that in the last few seasons he pretty much IS the bad guy. I mean, in the super crappy Justice League episode he had an entire complex designed to capture and do horrible tests on super humans. Do we really NEED more reasons to think he is the bad guy?

  • @braak: Because that makes a car "awesome", Just the way Michael Bay likes it.

  • @tetracycloide

I think what braak is TRYING to say is that he has a brain.... lol

Anyone in possession of one of those things would probably stay out of Iraq.

  • re: 2 Barricades. It's possible that one of the cars is a backwards-driving doppleganger. If anyone has been to Disney's Lights! Motor! Action! stunt show they'll have seen this effect in action. The car looks like it's facing backwards, but the motor and controls and the driver are all facing out the back to allow for some crazy driving effects.

  • More than likely, there is only one Barricade in the movie, but multiple cars to perform the stunts. When watching the DVD extras for the first film, they did mention and show upwards of three different vehicle bumblebees. Think of it similar to spiderman. They did not just have one suit for production. They had multiple suits prepared for shooting because they will undergo damage during use or get dirty.

  • @EmEwing: It also makes the punchline to "Curse of Fatal Death" a bit more prophetic than it intended to be. Dalek bumps, what?

John Simm returning to Doctor Who: GOD YES!!!! Please let it NOT be a rumor!

  • There's been too much speculation to the John Simms returning rumour for it not to be true ... lots of people are suspicious of RTD's habit of leaking false spoilers (and people on other forums are speculating that the Davros rumour is a fake RTD one) ... they think that the Master is the big bad in the finale. Rumours are that there is a botched Master regeneration! (Someone who is claiming to have direct spoilers from DW production team says there is definitely a regeneration in series 4 but has not been told who). Maybe Doctor, Master or Doctor's daughter ... I want to see the daughter regenerate (as a botched Master regen has been done before ... although RTD likes bringing things back!)

  • John Turturro here.

    Transformers 2???

Why, God, why must you punish us mortals so..?

  • John Parker here.

Hurley and Sawyer [and, I'm assuming, Locke] playing Risk.

    Awesome.

  • I can think of numerous special effect shots that would require 2 identical cars to be shot.

For example if you need Barricade to transform into robot and back to car again (maybe in a different lane or something) in the same shot.
