I am the only person on the internet who is sad that Sci Fi Channel canceled Flash Gordon after a season of ice worms, skull guys, Gwar-looking hawkmen, 80s space fashions, and lots of scenes where Flash looks blond and goes "duh?" Even though Ming looked like a silly Eastern European bureaucrat, I'm going to miss this show. All I really wanted was for Ming's daughter Aura to take off her Stevie Nicks getup and put the moves on mad scientist Rankol. Every woman loves a guy whose lower parts are made of machine. Sadly, I'll never get my wish. Because the show is canceled. But at least I have my memories. [SyFy Portal]

Correct: you are the only person on the internet that is sad about this.
To be honest, I thought they'd cancelled it months ago.
Annalee, I didn't even know you liked Flash Gordon.
Please god don't let this be an April Fools joke.
Its totally an April Fools Joke... just wait...
..nope, I doubt it. It was hilarious, but it did suck, and they didn't even have Queen as the theme song, for that alone I condemn the show, even though I watched it for the first few episodes...
OH THANK GOD!
Now the healing can begin.
For the last time: Rankol wasn't half machine, he rode an evil segway. ; )
So many missed opportunities.
Also, Gwar has more dignity then those hawkmen.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Flesh Gordon was more interesting than this Flash Gordon.
The movie with the Queen soundtrack was much more enjoyable.
For me, the show jumped the shark in the first episode when a robot was transported into the middle of a bowling alley and zapped a bowling ball. As awful as the scene was, I was delighted by it's shear ridiculousness.
Hey Skiffy, next time you reimagine a show give it a budget so the wardrobe department doesn't have to shop at Kmart and you can have more sets, without having to do all the outside forest scenes.
Just a thought.
@Ryan H: Oh, god. I didn't even think about that as a possibility.
Don't undersell yourself -- you're the only person on Earth who's sad about this.
Well, except for Karen Cliche.
The funniest thing about Flash though, was he is supposed to be a local hero for marathons and all that jazz. but when he took of his shirt for the hawkmen episode, he was all baby fat and kinda man boobish, not a runner's physique.
@Ryan H: I know... April Fool's! Whitney is coming back for another season!
I can't get enough of Karen Cliche!
Two words:
Sad.
Not.
I'm sorry for your loss Annalee.
Maybe they'll do a Knight Rider / Flash Gordon crossover?
Nope, Annalee is not the only one who will miss this.
Because I liked seeing what little Aura wore week after week, and was truly hoping that the blue skinned hot ice chick would return.
However, this will open up my schedule to watch other CRAP.
@Log1c: I'm kind of a sucker for a little manboob.
Flush Gordon.
Someone please develop a "period" version of this classic. Sci-fi has already shown they can't.
@Plague: True! But what craptastic show can replace Flash in our hearts? The only contenders are Sci Fi movies of the week about LARGE ANIMALS and ghost dweebs.
Too bad... It had potential but 'they' made it way too campy, and special effects? Pure cheese. The 'ladies' however cannot be faulted for their level of 80's flavored hawtness.
RIP Flash... good luck to the cast.
Well... There is a God.
as everyone has said: yes, you are the only person sad about this.
now let's forget the whole thing ever happened and never speak of it again.
Don't get me started on this...
Maybe they could bring back Misfits of Science? That was fun.
@ComicDork: What s/he said.
Took em long enough.
Yes, you are, in fact, the only person on the internet who is sad about Flash Gordon.
Farscape has zero sympathy or pity.
All that being said, Painkiller Jane was much, much, worse.
That show must have been made so the copyright could be renewed.
It reminds me of that old "War of the Worlds" series... CANADIAN also, I believe.
Is there a north of the border, tax credit plot, to make cheap re-hashed Sci-fi?
Makes you think.
I'm not even a TV owner, and I'm glad it's off the air.
How dare you bring GWAR into this! Going to a GWAR show is fun! Watching flash gordon is painful in a space precinct/painkill jane kind of way.
Yess !!!! Thank you Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.
>>Hey Skiffy, next time you reimagine a show give it a budget so the wardrobe department doesn't have to shop at Kmart and you can have more sets, without having to do all the outside forest scenes.
Nevermind the sets and costuming, "Hey, haven't we seen this tree before?" and "Sorry, we only have the one rubber suit" are practically sci-fi institutions. How about springing for actual writers?
Wow, Sci-Fi IS getting better every week!
@Seth L: PJ was bearable. Flash was not.
I'd celibrate, but it's unlikely they will replace it with anything better.
I thought it had been canceled. I watched one episode... and I want that hour back.
@Epaminondas: With our luck, it will be a 24 episode run of "Tin Man: The Series" or some other tripe.
If they are going to do those "backdoor pilots" scifi channel seems fond of talking up everywhere, where's my Lost Room series?
Also, the topic, no more Flash? It's a christmas miracle.
"Flash Gordon Canceled on Sci Fi Channel"
And there was much rejoicing...
Yet is there anything that unites the readership of io9 together like our hatred of this show?
Like Yugoslavia in the absence of Tito, I fear that once it is gone we will fall back into our divided ways and begin attacking each other mercilessly.
Gone will be the days of:
"You say Star Trek, I say Star Wars, but at least we agree on Flash Gordon!"
"Ha Ha. Yes!"
And the days of:
"Honestly, I think (cultishly beloved mainstream work such as Blade Runner, Firefly, Lost, etc.) is overrated."
"I would come to your house and break your legs, except I know we are united in our distaste for Flash Gordon."
"Ha Ha. Yes!"
I smell an ill wind blowing. I taste that this apparent victory will bring only chaos and destruction. United we stood....divided...will we fall?
I'm missing Flash with you, Analee; it was like the production company was finally getting the idea of what they were doing when they had the rug pulled out from under them.
FINALLY!!!
They cancel sooo many good shows for this kinda crap.
You know what the real question is...
What do they replace it with?
@92BuickLeSabre: Ha Ha. Yes!
@radio1: Whatever it is, the odds are good that it won't be any worse.
@Spiral:
Quiet please! The walls at the Sci-fi channel may have ears.
TIN MAN: The Next Generation
(Makes my butt tighten-up just thinking about it.)
E-U
I will miss the show, because that means no more skimpily dressed Aura.
Three cheers for the death of the first show deliberately shot in Bland-o-vision(tm).
What was up with that???????????
When I was watching it on the first showing I thought that they were trying to draw a distinction between the show and the most recent movie. And then they would get to Mongo, and it would suddenly be this explosion of color. But no, Mongo was also shot in blandovision. Why? Why would you do such a thing?
I also missed the cheasey rockets from previous versions.
In case you missed it, there's a Flash Gordon animated series that had some good moments! from the 80's!
[imdb.com]
YES!! This is Great News. Time for someone to do Flash some justice.
Oh, I'll kind of miss it. Sort of.
-Kle.
Soooo.... more money for Caprica?! :D
Or... more money for stupid monster movies. :(
show was bad
It the problem was it wasn't Flash Gordon.
It was a crappy version of First Wave with a Flash Gordon treatment...
@avconsumer you are wrong on both thoughts.
No more money for good shows, and no more money for bad movies... but the movies will get worse.
I hear that they are going to let anyone who wants to be in a movie to just pay for being in the movie. And they are going to make everything in "Swede" format.
