You know you want to see it in all its sexy robotic glory, so click through. P.S. What's a Brannock device, you say? It's that foot-measuring doohickey you didn't realize had such a noble name.
Yes, it's a foot fetishy publicity still from Forbidden Planet.

replaces the Brannock Device and Al Bundy too
"Did you know I was a SF movie hero and not some robot selling shoes to fat women? They called me Robbie the Robot and I was the greatest robot hero on Altair IV. At least I could have been till I met your mother," said Robbie as he shoved his hand down his metal pants, "I could have been big star in SF and ended up rich like that C3PO guy, but instead I ended up working at the shoe store. Ahahaha my life sucks."
@ratlas: Jinx.
While you two talk about the robot, I'll stare at Miss sci fi 50's hotness.
He's, like, totally checking out that girl's legs.
I know what movie I'm watching tonight...
@Plague:
That would be Anne Francis, Robby's costar. Normally I'd agree, but I couldn't pass up an Al Bundy SF reference.
Sure you can try these shoes on. Just get up on top of that ladder since in the future we don't have chairs.
Considering the tiny number of stores who handle shoes in different widths...I don't know why they botherd.
Robbie the robot to be exact
That movie had a bunch of interesting press photos, some of which the old Cinefantastique magazine ran in their FP issue. One of the best was of the little guy who had to play Robbie, in the Robbie suit, which wasn't ventilated, and with his eyes blacked out.
It sure is foot fetishy. Must be why I like it!
@Oxfordian: and what about the expression on her face?
@ManchuCandidate: And let's not forget dashing leading man Leslie Nielsen. This is one of my favorite, all-time science fiction movies. Even with the dated special effects and corny dialog, it's still engrossing.
The Brannock Device...what a lovely bit of trivia.
@ManchuCandidate: Much more creaqtive use of the Bundy connection than mine. Al Bundy, now there's a guy who probably had some real monsters in his id.
@NefariousNewt: Now there's another i09 article. Even if it's been done: FP is the original pilot for Star Trek. Look at the senior crew and their relationships. Tell me they're not Kirk, McCoy, and Scott. Add to that the pretention of a Shakespeare-influenced plot.
@Moeskido:
Part of me wished Leslie were Kirk. Coincidental that both captains were from Canada City.
Included Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) in the crew.
@Moeskido: Very true. Right down to the Captain getting the girl. I wouldn't be surprised to find that Roddenberry was subtly influenced by Forbidden Planet.
@NefariousNewt:
Subtly influenced with a sledgehammer. Compare the original pilot, the Cage and the similarities are scary.
