This looks like the poster for an awesome science fiction film that we'd like to see: a girl in a giant hulking exoskeletal suit of armor with her comic-effect tiny little robotic pal perched on her shoulder. You've got evil signified by the pouring lava on the left hand side of the background, while fighters triumphantly scream past a proud city on the right. Whatever is happening here, we want to know more.
Sadly, it's not a movie poster. It's the personal creation of visual artist Yanick Dusseault, who provided concept art on GATTACA, 3D work on Titan AE, and painted matte paintings on everything from Star Wars to The Island. Somehow, he also manages to find time to work on an impressive array of his own personal artwork (like this piece), which can be seen at his website.

Awesome vehicle designs. Very cool stuff.
I have to say it looks like he may have been inspired the gorgeous (if slightly less digitally realistic) work of one of my favorite webcomics, Dresden Codak http://dresdencodak.com/cartoons/dc_021.htm The girl with goggles, the exoskeleton with feathers, the little robot friend (named Hob in the comic) the descending pillars of fire and explosions with ships overhead... While none of these are unique in themselves, for them all to appear in such close proximity in both is suspicious at best.
Yeah, this is totally awesome. Hello, new desktop background ...
@icelight: I didn't notice that at first, but you're right. The picture is very Dresden Codak-ish.
Dresden Codak would make an awesome movie.
Reminiscent of a ton of japanese artists working in graphix and manga, but that doesn't make them any less tasty.
Too bad I can't remember any of those artists name right now...
Girl in an exoskeleton == Metroid?!
@Plague: The first thing that came to mind seeing these pics was the Anime Last Exile
@twreckx:
Sorta- but exile is a tad more steampunk
Okay, it reminds me of Maya Miyazaki or Eito minus the hentai plus CGI.
This kinda reminds me of the armor style for the upcomming Huxley MMOFPS game.
Is there any place where I might find this awesome image in a 1920x1200 format because it'd make a killer wallpaper ;)
that chick has awesome nostrils. Oh yeah, and the image is fab.
I'm more interested in the one on his site with the robots with chainsaws and branches tied to their heads. That's got something going on.
Looks like she's wearing Warcaster armor and that little bugger on her shoulder is a servitor.
If you're thinking of a cute space suited girl with a robot sidekick then Jake Parker's Lucy Nova (Agent 44) predates Aaron Diaz's Kimiko (in Dresden Codak) by several years. But the style here makes me think of the more futuristic paintings of Robert T. McCall (aka Bob McCall) who did the posters for 2001, concept art for ST:TMP, murals for NASA, and tons of SF paintings that look like movie posters but aren't.
@Nivair: Nice work, this is really great.
And she's wearing goggles! I vote that someone should write a story based on this picture, and then it should be made into a movie. <3
Why are we presuming that the character is a girl? Outside of pre-existing potential reference points, it could be a dude.
Personally, I think it is one of the brothers from Hanson. Or it might be Gunter Nelson.
