School's almost out, and io9 is looking for a summer intern who wants to fill in those lazy summer months with frenzied research into science fiction and mad science. An intern works 5 - 10 hours per week doing research, fact-checking, and contacting sources in the science and entertainment industries for story ideas and information. You must be detail-oriented, obsessed with science and/or science fiction, and able to work very quickly.
Day-to-day, the job involves seeking out story ideas and helping editors gather more data for stories they're working on. Send us your resume and URLs for three samples of your writing by May 1. Sorry, you must be 18 or over to apply. Send materials to summerintern@io9.com.

Also you must bring me coffee. I won't give you my address either.
@Log1c: No need for that. I have an espresso machine to make me coffee.
Can you replace my regular job?
@Seth L: You mean, replace it with an espresso machine?
Age limit? Geographic location? Ability to solve mathematical propostions more complex than multiplication?
@twreckx: Dude, its sci-fi, you don't have to be able to actually do math or science, just make it look like you can!
Is geographical location a limiting factor when you're considering applicants? I mean, with differences in time zones?
I'm interested, and I was just wondering...
-Arun
I don't think my last comment came through, so let me try again:

I was wondering too, is geographical location a limiting factor? With times zones, I mean. I'm definitely interested.
-Arun.
Would something as simple as having a full-time job and/or family preclude one from consideration?
Aaaand all the Gawker sites are doing the same thing to me: my comments show in my activity history but not in the comment threads. I'm trying to avoid double posting.
Anyhow, I'm certainly interested. Just wondering if a full-time job and family will knock me out of the running.
We'd prefer a student for the summer internships, so being somebody with a full-time job is probably not a good idea. Geographical location does not matter. You must be over 18.
do you have to be on-site to work at Io9?
@groonk: Nope. We all work from home. You do, however, have to be available on IM a lot. That's how we communicate about work stuff.
Thanks Annalee.
Another quick question:
Are there any particular writing samples you'd prefer? (ie. book reviews, interviews, articles, essays, blogs)
-A.
Hey! That sounds just like me! Well, minus the detail oriented, obsession, and quick work. When can I start?
@arunkey: Obviously writing samples that show how well you can do the kind of work we'd be asking you to do at io9.
The more appropriate question would be what time period does the group usually do their work during and on what days. And the answer to the $64,000 question is?
Yet another question:
Is there a preference for a liberal arts student vs. a engineering/technical education student?
