It's easy to see why everybody's so crazy for these photos of Star Wars characters in ultra-gritty urban settings. Besides looking incredibly cool, there's something unsettling about seeing Jabba the Hutt in a cracked-out squat, or C3PO in a broken-down garage. The images, by French photographer Cédric Delsaux, show off how harsh and realistic Star Wars isn't. It's not like seeing a steampunk version of the characters, which is still recognizeably fantasy-ish. It's something entirely different. Click through for a gallery.

These remind me of the old front pages for Toshi Station, back in the day.
Most of the images were rural or western scenes like this one (Sandpeople working a wheat field). But some were urban, and they were all excellent.
These rock.
These are badass.
Sad imperial guards... looks like a break-up talk.
They strangely remind me of Occupied Caprica.
man, that is some bad photoshop. I've always believed you should have to pass a licensing exam to buy a copy, and this just reminds me to run for president to make that happen.
Is Boba looking for his 'Vette?

@Garrison Dean, King Awesome: This is exactly why Galactica had credibility. Imperfection is reality.
@zerofritz: Meh. They're better images than a bunch of the ones that came out of ILM in the late 90s.
And believe me...in the early to late 80s, I *never* thought I'd say that.
Boba Fett hanging out in a parking garage?
...I knew it! He MUST be Deepthroat! That's why Lucas ret-conned the voice in the movies. He was afraid Woodward would catch on. ...And you just KNOW that Boba and Liddy had to be best buds.
It's all so clear to me now.
@92BuickLeSabre: i hadnt seen those toshi station images-- thanks for the link
They may not be totally convincing but the figures look better integrated into the scenes then they did in the last three movies.
Very nice. Too bad the site is so Flashed up that it takes 30 seconds to open a 100KB jpeg ...
