We've written about scifi author Rudy "Postsingular" Rucker's forgotten 1980s classic The Sex Sphere before — it's the novel where a bunch of hypermatter creatures take the forms of blobs with breasts and genitals and try to conquer Earth. It almost works, too. Everybody gets so into having sex with the blobs that they become obedient alien slaves. Luckily, our heroes figure out a way to deal with the genitacular menace using extremely complicated math. Long out of print, the book is now about to be reborn as a print-on-demand deal. And Rucker has just released a picture of the book's new cover, which he painted himself. Check it out below (NSFW) — it must be seen to be believed.
That's a sex sphere alright.

Rucker will be offering his novel Spacetime Donuts as a print-on-demand book too. Both should be out this summer. We'll let you know as soon as the URLs exist.

Looks like he's been listening to Daniel Johnston or something...
A-Bombs and floating titties... and thats how I see the world.
I read The Sex Sphere when I was about 12. I was like, "Wha? This is what sex is about? Ok, then."
@Annalee Newitz:
Yeah, Rudy's a strange man... Sorta like what if Tim Leary had decided that obtuse mathematics were the route to expanded consciousness.

Painted it all by himself, you say?
I love it. It sounds ten kinds of hilarious. I might have to pick it up.
See, that's exactly what happens if 4chan ever reaches the 3rd Dimension.
@Annalee Newitz: Were you disappointed when you found out about the real thing?
Interestingly, thinking about complicated math problems does help out with certain aspects of sex.
@Signal: I always try to make sex as science fictional as possible.
