After humans have colonized the solar system, a mysterious shard from space arrives, killing or warping everything around it — until our civilization is all but wiped out. Thousands of years later, the only humans left on Earth survive in five mega-cities or roam the post-apocalyptic wasteland in combative tribes. Black Sea Studios' upcoming "next gen" real-time strategy game, Worldshift, features cooperative gameplay, thousands of powerful artifacts, customizable factions and a twisted scifi setting. Check out this gallery of mind-blowing screenshots and weird concept art.
There's no release date set (they're still in open beta), but you can check out the recently released demo of the game at the Worldshift official site. Images by: Black Sea Studios.

It looks amazing, gorgeous, and a lot of fun, but what is with putting glowing things on your military units?
I always thought rule #1 in warfare was to not get shot/stabbed/blown up, and by glowing, you certainly increase the chances of breaking rule #1.
It certainly looks awesome, there are some gameplay videos out on gametrailers.com if you are interested.
It looks like a mix of RPG and RTS
@zenpoet: I agree with you when it comes to infantry, but anything larger will be seen by sensor gear from miles away I would imagine. Could be that with the power armor they are wearing visual targeting is all but obsolete.
@zenpoet: yes.. almost as dumb as putting lights inside your helmet. The camera can pick up your noble features, but so can the enemy, and you can't see out..
Hollywood at war... sigh.
I'll give you a topic: Worldshift is neither post-human nor a wasteland. Discuss.
'Cause, you know, there are humans and it actually looks pretty verdant.
It looks neat. Actually, I think it's a nice change from fighting for survival in a blasted, barren environment. Why not do it among the flowers?
@codydog:
I rather like my sci-fi, war games to get the Hollywood treatment. If I want realistic war, I'll watch news. (then get depressed and cry myself to sleep)
You know who I bet they wish they had who could take care of that shard for them? Drizzt, that's who.
@moff:
Your Crystal Shard jokes cause me pain sir. Pain I say!
I like the overgrown post-human environment a lot. It's a refreshing change from "post-apocalyptic wasteland desert with a few wrecked buildings thrown in."
@ElijahDProphet: I can almost concede your point, but seriously, what is the use/benefit of having a glowing purple circle on your chest?
And really, even if I were in a tank, or a hummer sized vehicle, I would really rather it not glow. Period.
Make a spot twenty feet to my left glow, then they can shoot at that, and not me.

@zenpoet: But the glow represents the future! They're all glowy -> they're from the future. God knows we haven't invented glowy technology of that caliber yet.
@Belabras: What? What does Drizzt Henderson, founder and CEO of Shard Stoppers LLC, have to do with your pansy elf-ninja books?
But wouldn't it be far more neat than "overgrown post-human environment" to have: "New York City, Broadway, about half-past 5pm" to have our little shoot-em-up.
Keywords: Collateral. Damage. - disemboweled suits, dematerialized cabs, and permanently disfigured pedestrians --
c'mon you know you want that - All. That.
I suffered serious RTS burnout playing Supreme commander.
After trying to control 248 separate units in a coordinated attack, I just flipped out one day and hated it with a vengeance.
Maybe this game will be more sensible.
Hmm. Looks like straight RTS, I don't see many RPG elements from the screenshots, but it looks like most of them aren't gameplay, so there's no telling.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see; I really dig post-apoc games like this. :)
Bah, I am sticking with the star wars galaxies emulater. All other games kinda suck compared to it.
@Pope John Peeps II: Heh, I did two things, either built lots of experimentals, or just made huge ass groups and pulled some OVERWHELMING FORCE and steamrolled the base.
@Pope John Peeps II:
The sequil is a antidote to the original. I got burned out on the first one as well, but Forged Alliance adds the flavor that the original lacked, and more automation.
This one looks purty! Maybe like Universe at War, but without the sucky gameplay?
@Seth L: The sequel was okay, the did a lot to change the economy...
@zenpoet: Admittedly, looking at the way the world looks, glowy bits might be more akin to camo than non-glowy bits.
So this is World of Warcraft meets Sci-Fi?
