Starbuck continues to make some weird command decisions, in this clip from tonight's Battlestar Galactica, "The Road Less Traveled," which just went up on Hulu. It's like Apollo slipped her some cubits to make his stint as commander of the Pegasus look great by comparison. But at least she's not about to elect a Cylon president, like we are. Oh, and the first 10 minutes of tonight's episode are streaming, every hour on the hour, at SciFi.com, from 9 to 4 EST. [Galactica Sitrep]

Given the choice between watching Leoben, and yet another Baltar speech/beating/sexisode - it's the creepy Cylon FTW.
This is why I always say ladies shouldn't be put in charge of things. Well, this and the fact that I'm really sexist.
the real question is, who's going to get pimp slapped in this episode?
I think I've worked for worse.
No, she's not the worst. I was in the Navy for 10 years. I know of "officers" that were worse than her and they didn't even have the benefit of her hotness.
@se7a7n7: Anders, Leoben, Helo. In that order. If she has any strength left over, Anders again, then Gaeta.
@diverguy: I've been watching Carrier on PBS, and I can see where you're coming from (not from personal experience of course).
so spoilers are right in the post titles now?
thanks
I think the more pertinent question is this: is Katie Sackhoff the worst actress ever?
Yes, yes she is.
I'd nominate Katee Sackhoff for worst actress ever, but I don't know that Starbuck is the worst commanding officer ever.
@diverguy: Thus perfectly illuminating why command-control structures aren't any better than complete anarchy for the future of the colonies.
@goldfarb:
What are you on about? She's been CO for, like, two or three episodes now. It's not like this is unknown information or anything.
@goldfarb: You know, we debated whether Starbuck = commanding officer was a spoiler or not... and we decided it wasn't, because it's been a few weeks now that she's had her own ship to command. Plus it could be referring to her longstanding role as CAG.
@goldfarb: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
That raises the question of what officer on the Galactica is any good.
Gaeta and Dualla seem to the be only ones who maintain any level of professionalism or carry out orders.
Actually, scratch Dualla, she frakked her CO.
@Sihanouk-s-Poodle: Yeah, well, I wouldn't actually go to Seattle Grace if I needed serious medical help, either.
@Tim Faulkner: Nice. ;-)
"Darth Vader is Luke's Father" is a spoiler title, "Empire Strikes Back Shocker" isn't...
I haven't even seen the 3rd season of BSG...which I realize is my problem not yours (I don't watch TV at all, just wait for the DVDs of shows I like)...but the point is still valid...
@goldfarb: Is Seinfeld really about nothing?
Damn it, you ruined it for me... Now I can't watch the show.
Is Starbuck a CAG in Season 3? Is she a crappy leader? What the hell is ruined?
(Bruce Willis is dead.)
@goldfarb:My advice for avoiding spoilers is the same for not being eaten by lions: stay off the savannah. If you really don't want spoilers, then stay off the Internet as that's where they're born. It's their natural habitat. otherwise, get over it.
I have no issue with the posts themselves detailing every single frame of each episode...but is it such a big deal to use titles that don't contain plot details?
if I see a title that has something to do with BSG (or anything else I haven't seen and don't want spoiled) I don't read it...
it's just a courtesy...
here's my new website that fans of BSG might like:

@goldfarb: "Darth Vader is Luke's Father"
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?
@goldfarb: I'm really sorry, but this is actually a case where we discussed it in advance, and decided it wasn't too much of a spoiler. We work really hard to avoid having spoilers in headlines or anywhere on the front page... but we also can't have a dozen headlines in a row that say "battlestar shocker!" before it just becomes kind of like "Lorem Ipsum!!!" Although, actually, I think "Lorem Ipsum" would be a great headline if you just had enough exclamation marks.
@Charlie Jane Anders: Can io9 just start executing commenters who bitch about (non)spoilers that are well past their expiration date? I bet you could come up with a really cute sci-fi name for it like "Phasers Set to Kill."
The fact that she has, on more than one occasion, attempted to duel wield firearms should have alerted a superior officer somewhere along the line, especially when she managed to shoot Lee.
She'll end up a martyr or saint or something, I'm sure, but I really dislike the character. The only redeemable feature she had was death and she even managed to screw that up.
@extracrispy: Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing something along the line of Commies and executions. Also, can we change "Followers" to "Minions"?
@Charlie Jane Anders: Don't worry about it. There has to be a limit on calling "spoiler," especially if people don't watch the show and are reading a sci-fi news site.
Also, the Titanic sinks in the end and King Kong dies. Gotcha!
I just wish they would cover Seelix in Astroglide and let her dance around in her underwear. The whole cylon/human fight really pales in comparison.
@goldfarb: But the BSG Season Three DVDs have been out for almost two months now (to say nothing of the number of copies on the P2P sites for over a year). How long do you think a 'major' sci-fi site like I09 should wait?
Oh, goldfarb!
goldfarb, goldfarb, goldfarb...
Which, spelled backwards, is brafdlog.
...did I just blow your mind?
[Starbuck RULEZ!]
@edosan: And all this time I thought it was King Kong that sank and the Titanic climbed a New York skyscraper.
Maybe that's what would have happened if Starbuck were the captain of the Titanic.
I know this is supposed to be Starbuck's mission... but i was under the impression that Helo was higher ranking. He did serve as XO while Tigh was "retired". I would have thought this would have made him superior in rank.
To be logical... Commander Adama should have put Helo in charge of the ship and crew and left Starbuck as a mission "advisor".
I think this would have left an able leader in charge and kept the fruity person holed up in her room to draw pictures and map things out to her little hearts content. :)
@moff:
Excellent idea!
"Minions" makes it sound like you have jetpacks and/or demonic powers.
With "Followers" it just sounds like you you have terry-cloth robes and Kool-Aid.
@Craig Dawson: Logically, I don't understand why half the Galactica's top officers were stuck on Starbuck's mission. I thought it was just supposed to be giving her a small, disposable ship with a regular crew, so if she frakked it up or turned out to be a cylon, no harm done. But instead she's got tons of key personnel there with her, to be killed or taken prisoner or whatnot.
@Charlie Jane Anders: YES! That was the biggest WTF? of this whole thing. I thought it was her and Helo doing recon (which, y'know, makes sense in a way since Helo and Starbuck have always gotten along and have been through weird situations together in the past safely and successfully) but then ALL the top Viper pilots go, too? Athena's leaving Hera alone on Galactica?
I mean, WTF?
But I shove that aside and just watch ;)
@Charlie Jane Anders: Remember the good ole days when Adama almost overthrew the President for sending Starbuck alone on a mission because every last, damn Viper pilot was needed? What was that 20,000 people and five leaps of credibility ago? How time flies.
@Charlie Jane Anders:
Very true. It doesnt really make much sense to send all those people with her. But the writers obviously have some stort of story lined up that requires so many of the main characters to be with her.
As for Helo... I still dont understand why he isint the one in charge, with Starbuck along to do the navigating, so to speak.
@moff: They let Starbuck drive, she gets lost, even though she "knows" the way. They let Troi drive, she crashes the Enterprise into the side of a planet.
At the risk of editorializing, these women are guilty, and must be dealt
with in a harsh and brutal fashion. Otherwise, their behavior could
incite other women leading to anarchy of biblical proportions.
It's in "Revelations", people!
@Git Em SteveDave:
"@moff: They let Starbuck drive, she gets lost, even though she "knows" the way. They let Troi drive, she crashes the Enterprise into the side of a planet."
They let Janeway drive and look what happened there. Missed that freeway off ramp and wound up on the otherside of the galaxy.
@diverguy: Wasn't Paris technically driving? I hate to get all nitpicky.
Spoilers? A spoiler is when you tell everyone Starbuck murders Apollo by talking him to death. A spoiler this post is not, any more than a movie review is a spoiler or a book review. And yes, Darth Vader is Luke and Leia and Hans and C3PO's love child.
@Charlie Jane Anders: The people Adama sent with her were all her friends, except for Gaeta who is the best scientific mind they have (that can be trusted, unlike Baltar). Adama overestimated the faith they still had in her. She was in the wrong to want to go to the base ship without refueling and alerting Adama to the situation...she was making a decision well above her paygrade. Before her "death" she probably could have talked them into it but between the circumstances of her return and her increasingly flaky behavior she had no credibilty left....so even her closest friends turned on her.
Starbuck, has an overwhelming need to find EARTH, which she can not translate to her crew. ALSO the fact that her ever loving "hubby" is a Cylon..makes things VERRRY interesting.
@MISS MERCY STREET: "Given the choice between watching Leoben, and yet another Baltar speech/beating/sexisode - it's the creepy Cylon FTW."
Given the choice, I'd always have BOTH of them. As much as possible. Give me Leoben or give me a lot of Baltar in an episode, and I'm a happy gal either way. :)
I really, really hate cliffhanger endings. It's not like I'm NOT going to watch next week's BSG. Why would they tease me so? :(
@JennaW: I can't beleive after the dead baby stunt Roslin pulled that Athena would ever let anyone other than Helo look after Hera. I would have thought Hera would have been left with the Chief and Callie...
My guess is the Demetris is going to have one heck of a fight ahead if they go after the baseship. Probably some more auxiliary character deaths are on the way.
Holy God, Friday's episode was terrible. And boring.
I'm officially starting the "Can Katie Sackhoff/ Starbuck stop acting like a spazz?" club.
@Kounji: That bucket couldn't fight a base station and survive, unless it had no weapons for fighters.
