Spook Country author William Gibson and Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling will be turned into life-size animatronic statues, which at some point will gain sentience and battle to the death. At least, that'll be the case if the Science Fiction Hall Of Fame is as animatronic-happy as the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame, which it really should be. The two will be honored, along with Betty and Ian Ballantine and weird cyber-artist Richard M. Powers, at the Sky Church in Seattle on June 21, at a ceremony hosted by Connie Willis (Doomsday Book). William Gibson is finally due for recognition...
Now if only they wouldnt fuck up Neuromancer the movie as they're fucking it up right now, I would be a happy man...
@dumanue: Who's fucking up Neuromancer??!
/Rolls up sleeves
/Returns from CHUD
DAMNIT.
@workingonyourinvoice: oh you didnt know? theyre making a Neuromancer movie scheduled for release 2009, but you should see who the producers got for directing the movie and who they hired to play Case...
It's a travesty I tell you...first they ruined Johnny Mnemonic and now theyre ruining Neuromancer...

Oh, holy shit this headline gave me a heart attack.
I thought you were going to say that William Gibson was dead.
@dumanue: You're kidding me! D:<
*looks at IMDB* WHAT!?!?! Case is being played by.....!! O_o *faints*
@Silver_Back: yup yup, sorry to get you all worked up but its all true...
whoever is producing the movie needs to be shot on the spot :/
Guy: - I wish... that... someone would make a Neuromancer movie!
Genie: - Done!
Guy: - Great... Wait, what? That's not what I wished for!
Genie: - You should have been more specific.
chris Cunningham where are you when we need you most????!!
@workingonyourinvoice: WISE. I was gonna say that too, the first time I heard echoes of that... like, what, 7 years ago? While kinda big-screen untested like a Blomkamp-directed Halo, I had faith in Cunningham's vision. I was quasi-secretly hoping Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) would do the soundtrack, too.
Then again, given the non-events thus far, more's subject to change!
Now, if only we could find out whatever happened the lost Philip K. Dick android.
Whats the big deal about Neuromancer...anyway???
@oldandintheway: Whats the big deal about neuromancer? are you kidding me? one great work of cyberpunk noir fiction...
maybe Philip K. Dick was one of the founding fathers of scifi and cyberpunk, but William created the dark dystopian noir style...he was the one that put the punk in cyber and I think the one who coined the internet as the matrix...way before there even was an internet...
Just reread Neuromancer this weekend for the nth time. A question to ya'll...Molly said her former lover, Johnny, rented space in his head. Is he THE J. Mnemonic, or is there another story I'm missing.
@lazyeight:
Yes.
All that talk about the yakuza catching up with them and getting revenge was in reference to Johnny Mnemonic. The story, not the movie, of course.
@lazyeight: In the short story anthology Burning Chrome, 3 stories take place in the Sprawl, the same setting for the Neuromancer Trilogy.
1. Burning Chrome (about Case's mentors)
2. New Rose Hotel (also made into a terrible movie... but it had Chris Walken in it so it's ok)
3. Johnny Mnemonic
And yes, Molly Millions, Sally Sheers, etc, they're all the same woman. The storyline of Johnny Mnemonic matches the backstory that Molly briefly mentions in Neuromancer perfectly, thereby giving the unfortunate epilogue to the short story.
