Killer robot show Battlestar Galactica's prequel Caprica has cast its female lead, sexy surgeon Amanda Graystone. Paula Malcomson, best known for her work as Trixie in Deadwood, will help bring the soap operatics to the "Dynasty in space" backdoor pilot. Her character, the wife of inventor Daniel Graystone, has divided loyalties. More details and spoilers about the character after the jump.
Caprica is set amidst a war beween two rival families (the Graystones and the Adamas) 50 years before the cylons' nuclear attack on humans. Amanda is married to to Daniel Graystone, a brilliant computer engineer who downloads his daughter's (Zoe) personality into an online Avatar (which later becomes a cylon proto-type). As we spoiled before Amanda is a "double agent" and is sleeping with her husband's rival (a Tauron named Tomas Vergis). Her guilt leads her to share with her husband any secrets she hears from Tomas. Which aids Daniel in building a proto-cylon. [Hollywood Reporter]

Oh, this is great news. I really liked her on Deadwood, and was really disappointed when she was killed so quickly on Lost last season.
Cylons have only been around for 50 years, or less?
So...is this just a Soap, or are there toasters running about shooting up the place?? Is there a Viper or a Raider to be seen anywhere in this show?
I think the reference to "the cylons' nuclear attack on humans" is a mistake...since BSG takes place, what 60 years(?) after the cylon war?...so Caprica is set 50 years before that...
I guess...
I'm pretty sure Adama isn't an octogenarian, so since he fought in the Cylon war it couldn't have been 60 years before.
I seem to recall an episode where they mention Adama's 45 year of service to the fleet. It was some time last season. That would make Adama at least 63, and more than likely closer to 70.
I hope some real transhuman and AI issues are raised. I wonder if the level of AI developed to a point where most of their civilization became interconnected with a internet kinda thing? We take it for granted that all advanced civilizations will have high-tech communications and medicine. There is no evidence of that technology on the Galactica. My point is, our planet seems more tricked out than theirs. I hope the mood changes, because this bleak season is dragging me down. I need my sf to be fun. This stuff is such a buzzkiller, despite the nice ships and explosions.
Confused? You won't be after the next episode of Caprica!
AHA!

shit.
there are spoilers on that page...stupid internet...
@Epaminondas: Brilliant!
But will she be saying FRAKSUCKERS or somesuch? Get Ian McShane involved and I'll be down for it
@goldfarb: Hahaha, goldfarb, you're like the little kid who just will not learn that the stovetop is HOT, Don't touch.
@goldfarb: Hahaha, goldfarb, you're like the little kid who, no matter how many times he burns himself, just will not learn that the stovetop is HOT, Don't touch.
dammit
I am so not excited about this. Some things are better left unexplained.
I don't need to see the writers of BSG to make everything nice and neat with a prequel.
I just don't.
Great! I love that actress!
She started popping up on series like crazy after "Deadwood" wrapped, but she almost always got killed off in her first or second episode... (See, for example, "Lost.")
Glad she's finally going to be getting a steady paycheck again!
Yes, I love Deadwood! But I'm still not sure how I feel about this prequel - BSG is wonderful and I'll be sad to see it go, but the premise of Caprica doesn't exactly sound that captivating. With a casting choice like this, though, I feel encouraged.
@Tim Faulkner: You're like the little kid who posts almost the same exact message - twice.
;)
So, it's pretty much "As the Cylon Turns".
Lets see,
no cylons
no raiders
no vipers
no battlestars
no Boomer (Athena) 0_o
no other characters I know and or care about and no chance of cameos (ala SG Atlantis, Doctor Who etc) as it is a completely different timeline.
so allow me to shout a resounding.....'meh'
@Jeff-Minor
Their planets were are very nicely tricked out until they all got sploded'
oops weer all... damn 109 for not having after the fact editing for commenters... lol
I can't wait for the proto-cylon to start flailing its arms and yell:
"DANGER Will Adama! DANGER!"
@dOk: I guess. Ours will be there in no time, and look how close we are to artificial gravity and light speed transportation. This show needs to be set on Trantor, not Caprica.
(que Marvin the Paranoid Android voice):
This sounds positively dreadful.
This means we're never getting that 2-hour wrap-up Deadwood movie, doesn't it?
I am so uninterested in this show. I'm hoping it'll be great 'n' all, but I have no intention of watching it.
It's as if they're making a prequel for a different group of people from those who watch and love BSG. Which is fine, but... where are those people going to come from when we fans couldn't convince our non-SF-watching friends to give BSG a chance?
@Cantonkid: Knight Rider had no Trans-Am, yet people still watched...and complained, bitched and moaned.
At least this post clears up one thing: Amanda is the final humanoid Cylon! LOL
