Robert Bigelow, owner of the Budget Suites hotel chain and head of Bigelow Airspace, has two functioning space stations in orbit around Earth. The older module, Genesis 1, just passed its 10,000th orbit, and both it and Genesis 2 appear to be functioning normally. It's pretty exciting that an entrepreneur can keep two small stations in orbit , and move ahead with his plans to launch a crewed "Sundancer" version by 2011. But has anyone thought about what Bigelow's really up to? "Bigelow Aerospace" sounds an awful lot like "Drax Industries" in Moonraker... oh sure, there's probably nothing to worry about. But could it really hurt if we politely asked Mr. Bigelow to search the Genesis modules for nerve gas? (from Space.com)

Bigelow!
He'll sting you with his dreams, of power and wealth.
Beware of... Bigelow!
His twisted twin obsessions are his plot to rule space
And his employee's health.
He'll welcome you onto his station
Like the nobleman welcomes his guest!
With free dental care and a stock plan that helps you invest!
But beware of his generous pensions
Plus three weeks paid vacation each year
And on Fridays the station serves hot dogs and burgers and beer!
He loves German beer!
not to mention that the fucking this is called *genesis*....
KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Huge man with steel teeth wanted for questioning...
We should be ok if we put aside the sum of $1 Million to meet his future demands.
@putch: Am I the only one that thought of "American Psycho"?
@Bell County: Ha! Nice!
I have to admit that I've never even heard of this Bigelow fella until io9 posted this! Cool, Budget Suites in space... for all your budget space travel needs!
Why have I never heard of these things before? What do they mean by "stations"? Is there anybody actually in them?!
Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 make a "deuce", right? For Bigelow Industries, right?
...so what we have here is...
Deuce Bigelow
...right?
@papercup mixmaster: I know i was amazed too..
I think the only occupants are Madagascar hissing cockroaches ( and Mexican jumping beans...
Which really make it seem like you are trying to be a Bond villan, or at least and Austin Power's villian...
So, if I were to somehow place into orbit a large pickle jar with a cockroach in it, it would be considered a space-station?
@ManchuCandidate:
Favorite. Simpsons. Episode. Ever.
@russdanger: Are you sure your name shouldn't be Snarky Snarkington, the guy who is snarky?
@russdanger:
Yeah - how did you get past the bitter-cynic filter?
he's a very secretive dude, who does not give out lots of press interviews and has a TON of security, armed to the teeth. it's pretty wild.
Don't you judge me! but... I do like 'Moonraker'. Really. The cheesy factor is beyond awesome, its Bond in space, with a genetic manipulation/eugenics plot, the whole stealing space shuttles scenario and an apparently invisible space station is still dear to my heart. (How the hell did he built it there? Plus the actor playing Drax was pretty good.
I see and hear what you are all saying about me...
Ngaaa see... Bigelow never forgets...
Bigelow never forgets...
I'd love a longer story about these two stations and Bigelow's stated intentions.
