More Battlestar Galactica TV movies seem to be on the dradis. Chicago Tribune columnist Maureen Ryan, who's connected with the BSG producers, has confirmed the rumors from last week that BSG will be making more TV movies. But Ryan's insider sources only have "cautious optimism" about whether the films will happen. Thankfully none of these TV movies will have any effect on the finality of BSG's ending.
Many issues are facing the BSG TV movies. First is the fact that the actors from the series may be busy after filming the finale, and NBC/Universal may not be able to afford them any more. These movies could begin production as early as July this year, but we'll know in the next few weeks if they get greenlit.
What these movies would be about is anyone's guess, but most importantly, sources tell Ryan these extracurricular activities won't change the direction of the series in any way, or make the show's ending any less final. The movies would take place in the show's past, probably during the first few seasons, similar to Razor's filling in of backstory.
Ryan explains that while the TV movie rumors are only chatter at the moment, but there will definitely be a set of webisodes that will play a large role in bridging the gap between the two halves of season four. These episodes could premier as early as July this year, and the second half of season four may debut as late as early 2009.
I'll watch the BSG made for TV movies because every single bit of Galactica I get helps me through the day. Still, I'm wary of anything that will cheapen my original love for the series. Razor was fun and had moments of awesomeness, but all in all was a lot of filler. But as long as they don't tamper with, or withhold, any plot lines from the series finale to service their need for more TV movies, I'll be content. [Chicago Tribune]

Ditto. Don't fix what ain't broke. If they fuck with the show I'll be pissed, but as stand alone to it, I'll be happy.
Sackhoff is joining Nip/Tuck, Penikett is in Dollhouse...
Gonna be kinda hard to get the gang back together for a bunch of movies we probably don't need.
@Log1c: Don't you mean "Frak with the show"? This is a BSG thread after all...
Wait. 2009? Wait?
I die a little inside every time I remember that it could be a year before we find out how it all ends. Damn you split seasons! Damn you to hell!
This is a relief. I love BSG but I want a satisfying end, not a drawn out, X-Files sputtering of hope and dreams.
But more Razor-like movies could be cool. There's a whole year on New Caprica that we've only seen parts of and Anders and the Guerrillas on Caprica, and Bulldog held prisoner by the Cylons and enough wiggle room for a dirty dozen style caper staring Starbuck and Apollo... can't be any worse than the Clone Wars.
Gods, that's a low bar, ain't it?
I get the impression, from watching cut scenes to watching the "extended" versions of certain episodes, that there are a lot of things the BSG folks want to include but can't.
I saw a bunch of cut scenes that detailed the meeting of Adama and Tigh, and in light of ahem, recent events, was rather interesting.
Then there are other questions. Such as: Why do the skinjob cylons have such lovely fashions? Who makes their clothes? Do we have a group of centurions whose job it is is to cut and sew?
I can just see the head Centurion designer telling a Six "you will look fabulous, by your command."
Thank you! What a great audience...I'll be here all week....
@Plague: Starbuck on Nip/Tuck? They'll make a skin job out of her if the BSG crew didn't already.
I liked Razor, but let's be honest. It could have been a 30 minute episode. There was a lot of padding.
Just give me good stories and I will watch, but please cut to the meat of the story.
BSG TV Movies Won't Change The Show's Ending, Will Diminish Its Legacy
My understanding is that RDM has a deal to do multiple movies. . . but NOT necessarily BSG movies.
The confusion out there is that the folks in charge may be thinking of doing 1, 2 or even 3 BSG movies-- or maybe none at all, and instead doing other projects.
My guess? No more BSG movies, folks.
I don't recall Razor filling in much back-story, at least none that mattered.
@Tim Faulkner: FTW
@njudah: Where did you see these cut scenes? Hopefully somewhere on the DVD's where I can find them.
It's interesting how adamant they are that these potential movies, new series, etc. all take place in the past. I'm convinced that means everyone dies at the end of the series.
@Epaminondas: Kendra Shaw was the first person to hear the old hybrid tell her about Starbuck's destiny, which is currently unfolding in the most recent episodes.
I think one feature film BSG would be a classy way to go, if the series ending and Caprica permit. To have it take place in the existing storyline would require them to shoot it relatively soon, both because of team availability, and because some of them are getting frakking old.
While I love BSG I'm all about finishing it off with the end of the series. B5 did the movie thing and while that worked a couple of times, I have to admit that they become a little thin as time went on.
@Ryan H: Shut up! Just Shut up!
Find the happy place. Think of Starbuck. Think of Starbuck. Dont think of the hiatus. Think of Baltar.
Im Ok now.
I hope the movie has a scene where Adama and Roslin almost kiss but she gets stung by a bee. And then Adama has to rescue her from a spaceship in Antarctica.
Fraking sweet.
@Epaminondas: Seconded, I felt I could use my 2 hours back after watching Razor.
Besides, I thought that backstory was the entire premise of Caprica (ok so it's waaaay back, but still)...
...hey, did Lucas somehow get ahold of this show???
