The Comic-Con Images that Haunt Our Dreams

Welcome to day 3 of Comic-Con, fondly referred to by everyone who has been here since Wednesday as "the Day that Feels Like a Giant Pokemon Is Dancing On Your Head." It's likely to be the most crowded, since it's a weekend, and people will be thronging to see panels on their favorite TV shows like Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, Chuck, and Sarah Connor Chronicles, as well as to get peeks at upcoming fall and winter offerings like JJ Abrams' Fringe and Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. Today's big movie mania moments will be all about Terminator 4, so expect a few tidbits on that. Tonight is also the Masqerade, a giant orgy of costuming that is like a cross between a homebrew robot club and the most outrageous fashion show you've ever seen.

We've got to admit there are some costumes we could do without. For example, there are just way too many Batmans and Jokers. We won't even deign to show you a Joker because you've already seen a zillion of them. But here are two atypical Batmans, who demonstrate the degree to which Batman is so played out that he's now a toque-wearing goofball.

When you wrestle grown men with giant bags full of toys to the ground in order to move five feet through the Expo, there is one shining, silvery land that beckons you in the distance. It's the SciFi Channel booth, which is basically a giant, silvery, organic spaceship full of TVs. Tonight SciFi is co-sponsoring the coolest party of the Con with Entertainment Weekly, and we hope to survive to tell you all about it.

No matter how much of a dork you are for all things Batman, some Bat-things will always remain a mystery to you. Or, at least, they will to me. I love this charming anime-style Bat-cycle, but cannot identify its origin. Is it from a Batman anime? From the new animated series, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, with its neo-sixties flair? Or did somebody just plunk it into the middle of the Expo floor to perplex us? All I can say is that at least it's not yet another Joker.
