Future Cops Fight A Part-Mantis, Part-Scorpion, Part-Bat, All-Woman VillainS

The latest movie in the Asian science fiction boom, China's Future Cops, sounds crazier and more science fictional than CJ7 or Love Story 2050. Directed by action-movie veteran Ching Siu Tung, the movie features cops in the year 2130, wearing black-and-silver jumpsuits and sporting cyborg body parts. And there's a female villain whose cybernetic attachments include a scorpion tail, bat wings, and praying-mantis arms. Oh, and leopard speed. I am so there.

Future Cops stars Andy Lau and his wife, Fan Bing Bing, as cops living in the year 2130 and Xu Jiao is their daughter. Lau travels back in time to 2080 and has part of his memory erased, and then he meets a romantic interest, played by Barbie Hsu. Meanwhile, a terrorist leader (Fan Siu Wong) sends his men to kidnap a scientist (Ma Jing Wu) whom Lau and Fan are protecting at a Tang Dynasty art exhibition. And then there's the female villain Tang Yi Fei, who has the aforementioned scorpion, bat, mantis and leopard parts.

Originally this film was supposed to take place partly in the present, but now the filmmakers have decided to set it entirely in the future. I literally cannot wait. I am building a time machine so I can see this movie now. [Wu-Jing]
