How Will The New Escape From New York Be Different? Plus Major Lost And Smallville Developments!S

A screenwriter talks the Escape From New York remake. A surprising Lost character walks the Island. V's mystery resistance leader is a Cylon! A DC Comics mainstay joins Smallville. Plus Doctor Who, Fringe, Despicable Me, Crazies, Supernatural and Chuck spoilers.

Escape From New York:

Writer Allan Loeb says he sees this as a "big movie" and hopes it'll be the first in a new series. He says the underlying idea will be the same as the original film:

We believe that there's a chance to re-tell that idea. [But set] in this day and age, and still have it be very exciting and interesting. Put four walls around the island of Manhattan, drop in the world's most dangerous criminals and what's the ecosystem that arises?

And he's eager to write a Kurt Russell cameo into the new film. And yes, Snake Plissken will still be an eyepatch-sporting badass. [MTV]

Despicable Me:

Reporters viewed some footage from this animated supervillain movie. Gru (Steve Carell) is a mean villain who blows up a balloon animal to cheer up a small child whose ice cream has fallen on the ground, then pops it and roars away on his smoke-belching rocket. He goes back to his mansion and descends to the basement where he addresses his peanut-shaped minions.

But then Gru discovers someone else has already beaten him to committing the crime of the century: Vector (Jason Segal) a spoiled rich kid whose dad (Will Arnett) gives him whatever he wants, has stolen the great pyramid in Egypt and replaced it with an inflatable replica. For some reason, Gru hatches a plan to one-up Vector by stealing the moon, and this requires him to hang out with three little girls who arrive at his house to sell him cookies. He softens the more he hangs out with the little girls, telling them bedtime stories and taking them to the fair, where he vaporizes the booth of a fairground attraction that refuses to give one of the girls a prize.

Gru is like the Wile E. Coyote to Vector's Roadrunner, as Vector effortlessly outthinks the underdog supervillain. [Cinematical]

Twilight:

Apparently it's just a rumor that the final book will be made into two movies - the studio hasn't made any decision yet. [MTV]

Lost:

Sounds like Charles Widmore is going to get back to the Island at last — at least, there were some scenes being filmed featuring most of the main cast along with Widmore at the Temple.

Also, those scenes where Jack goes to Bernard's dentist office don't involve a root canal. Instead, Jack comes in while Bernard is working, and talks to him, while Bernard listens intently.

In one upcoming scene, Sayid goes to visit Nadia and tells her this is the last time they'll see each other. Then he tries to make a clean getaway but is arrested by Sawyer and his partner, Miles, for the murder of Keamy. In another scene, Sawyer and Kate watch video of Keamy's murder. And Sawyer also sees the Ajira Airlines plane on his TV set. [Transmission podcast via SpoilersLost]

And here are a couple new promos for tomorrow night's new episode:

According to an anonymous source, Jin gets captured by scientists who are working for Widmore, and Kate and Sawyer have to swim in to shore from the sailboat to rescue them. But Jin's been subjected to the effects of Room 23, so he's on the scientists' side when Kate and Sawyer arrive. [SpoilersLost]

Doctor Who:

Radio Free Skaro got hold of what it says is a leaked press release for season five aka season one, airing this spring:

A new era of Doctor Who begins in Spring 2010. This latest series of the BBC's flagship drama programme sees Matt Smith's debut as the new, Eleventh incarnation of the famous Time Lord alongside a new travelling companion, the enigmatic Amy Pond (Karen Gillan).

Together they explore 16th century Venice, France during the 1890s and the United Kingdom in the far future, now an entire nation floating in space.

As always, wherever the Doctor goes, his oldest enemies are never far behind – the Daleks are hatching a new master plan from the heart of war-torn London in the 1940s. But they are not the only strange creatures the Doctor and Amy must face – there are also alien vampires. humanoid reptiles, old enemies such as the Weeping Angels, a Star Whale, and a silent menace that follows Amy and the Doctor around wherever they go…

And it says the first episode will be 60 minutes long.[Radio Free Skaro]

V:

So we mentioned we'd be meeting the mysterious John May in the April 13 episode - and it turns out it'll be Michael Trucco, aka Battlestar Galactica's Sam Anders. [TV Guide]

Fringe:

Joshua Jackson says Peter will be the last to find out that he's from the alternate universe, and this will put Peter in a strange place by the end of the season. Everyone else will figure it out before he does, and when he gets there, it'll destroy the comfortable world he's created for himself. Everybody's gotten sucked into Walter's lie, and Peter will be mad at everybody for keeping it from him. [Fox5SanDiego via SpoilerTV]

Smallville:

Another classic 1980s comics character coming to this show: Max Lord, the former Justice League svengali will appear in episode 9x19, "Charade." Meanwhile, Metallo will be back in episode 9x18, "Upgrade," which features red kryptonite. And episode 9x20 will be called "Sacrifice." [Kryptonsite]

Allison Mack says Chloe will be continuing to have a rift with Clark:

She has some really major secrets that she's keeping from him because she doesn't agree with the way that he is pursuing his heroic career. She thinks that he needs to be a lot more aggressive about his pursuit in saving the world from the Kryptonians. And he disagrees with her more violent way of approaching the saving of the world. So they have a lot that is sort of stopping them from being able to relate in a way that is as symbiotic as the way they were relating previously in their relationship. So you see them struggling a lot more. You see them fighting a lot more. You see them disagreeing a lot more. And you also see Chloe really starting to hide things from Clark in a way that she never had before. So it's interesting. Chloe is developing a much darker side. And starts to become a lot more militant about the things that she feels she needs to accomplish.

When the show comes back after the Olympics, someone will want a career change, and someone else will get one. The show will go international again. A "feint and a double cross" will keep the good guys on their toes. Two related deaths will have major consequences. And two characters will find their pasts coming back to haunt them, and one of those two will seek comfort at the Subway. [ChuckTV]
