Only the AIs with their metal balloon bodies could build the ray-capture cells that provided energy for the whole planet. They worked tirelessly in factories steaming with byproducts, surrounded by the gleaming rectangles created to capture gamma rays.
These images by Seattle concept artist Thomas Scholes capture otherworldly landscapes, from the AI factory to the medieval outpost whose walls are dragon-proof (at least for now). Something about the light in these images makes them seem like fantasy, even though their subject matter could just as easily be science fiction.
