Nic Cage Explains The Magical Rules To Being A Sorcerer's ApprenticeS

The new trailer for The Sorcerer's Apprentice is blasting your face full of Nic Cage's plasma bolts. Watch and learn Cage's magic-school rules. (Sadly, Conditioner is not one of them.) Plus see the first Fantastia walking-broom-disaster shout-out.

Rings on every finger, fingerless gloves, pointy leather wizard cap, a leather duster and a hatred for showering — this is what makes a wise old wizard. Or at least, that's what we're getting from Cage. Not to be a hater, because this new trailer has me so jazzed for this film, I can barely find words.

First up — dragons, hadouken plasma blasts, bugs and iron birds, all tucked into the streets of NYC. It's like my usual daydreams brought to life. Besides the fact that Cage has brought out the Full Crazy for this one. We're just ready to see some classic urban fantasy hit the streets, Jerry Bruckheimer style. I'm going to watch this movie so hard, I might even buy it dinner afterwards.

Check out this gallery of pivotal moments from the new trailer. Plus the first reference to Fantasia, which the film was inspired by. We were wondering how they were going to fit that in there — looks like the Jay's taking on the classic role of the mouse, messing with the old man's magic to a disastrous broom-walking end.

Full Synopsis:

Balthazar Blake (NICOLAS CAGE) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (ALFRED MOLINA). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (JAY BARUCHEL), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE. The screenplay is by Matt Lopez and Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard from a screen story by Matt Lopez and Larry Konner & Mark Rosenthal.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice hits theaters July 16th 2010.
