Shanghai opened its 2010 World Expo to the public for a test run today, and everyone got a better look at the amazing futuristic architecture, much of it made with sustainable materials. Take a virtual tour below.

We love the fact that there's a new World Expo, since these sorts of events usually celebrate an optimistic view of the future — something we're sorely in need of right now. With Iron Man 2's plot apparently revolving around a fictional Stark Expo from the 1970s and Tony Stark's attempt to recreate it in the modern era, it's time for a new Expo building spree. And Shanghai, semi-officially the most futuristic city now that Dubai has fallen on hard times, is the perfect place to host it.

Some pretty way-out building designs were being floated a while back for this expo, and some of the craziest are conspicuously not showing up among the photos we've looked through so far. In particular, Macau was supposed to have a building shaped like an enormous rabbit, and Denmark's pavilion looked totally insane. Fast Company had a great roundup of some of the trippier designs that were planned for the Expo a while back, but here's the ones that actually got photographed so far.
