How does a young man deal with his father's titanic legacy — one that defined a genre and affected a country? Gene Roddenberry's son looks for answers in a new documentary.
There are lots of things that make documentaries fascinating: subject matter, relevance, discovery. But underscoring all of that is access. How close can the filmmakers get to the honest truth, to the people who've been affected by the world they're seeking to expose? At the very least, Trek Nation seems to have scored, with interviews from people like George Lucas, J.J. Abrams, and the late Michael Piller, who executive produced Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.
Only time — and screenings — will tell if Roddenberry the Younger is honest with us.
