Just when you thought you've seen almost every permutation of the superhero mythos comes a French flick — premiering at this year's Cannes Film Festival — about revenge-mad automotive parts.

Directed by Quentin Depieux, Rubber is about a tire who, after seeing a pile of his fellow tires burning, goes on a revenge odyssey and kills those responsible by blowing them up with its astonishing mental power. None of that, I fear, is made up. Just so we're all clear: This is an actual film that someone really shot that is premiering at the most prestigious film festival on the planet.
