Rise of the Apes: Jamming More Monkey Business Down Our Throats Next Summer

Fox has settled on June 24, 2011 as the release date for their contemporary Planet of the Apes prequel — which, hopefully, will feature neither Tim Burton or Mark Wahlberg.

According to Deadline, director Rupert Wyatt is planning to use WETA to create entirely CG apes, eliminating the need for actors in simian makeup. As for the plot:

Rise of the Apes is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

So between Thor, Green Lantern, Captain America, X-Men: First Class, Transformers 3, Cowboys & Aliens, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 summer 2011 is gonna be ridiculous,
