Okay, maybe that's a little hyperbolic, but this little genre gem — which follows two teens, a camera, an evil book, and chompy, chompy beasties — carries a potent charge.

Made by a quartet of French art students — Francois Vico, Martin Vaissie, Sarah Matuszak, and Xavier Goubin — Amock sets two ne'er-do-wells against an increasing tide of beasts. While it doesn't end quite as solidly as you'd want (check out the alternate, much better ending), Amock does more than most flicks like this: it actually manages to scare.
