The Phantom, The Gates, and True Blood make for a bloody good SundayS

It's the summer season, and Sunday has become the new scifi destination this week. Witness the debut of a jumpsuit-less Phantom, more sanguinary weirdness from True Blood, the debut of The Gates, and new Ashes to Ashes and Doctor Who.

MONDAY 6/14/10

There's a new Neighbors from Hell on TBS at 10 PM. On "Country Club Hell," Balthazor must brave a golf excursion with his boss.

On Persons Unknown (10 PM, NBC, "The Edge"), Moira removes the strange objects in each person's thigh while McNair and Joe investigate the invisible fence.

Late Night: Josh Brolin is on Leno for Jonah Hex, as is Twilight's Ashley Greene.

TUESDAY 6/15/10

On a new Ashes to Ashes (10 PM, BBCA), Alex must undergo a dangerous operation while trying to solve the mystery of a strange corpse.

ON PBS, there's a rerun of Nova — "Aliens from Earth" at 8 PM. Archaeologists investigates a mysterious, diminutive corpse on the island of Flores.

There's a marathon of The Sarah Jane Adventures from 11 AM to 4 PM on Syfy.

On G4, Escape from New York is on at 10 PM.

Also, in a match straight out of the Bizarro universe, it's Brazil versus North Korea in World Cup soccer on ESPN at 2 PM. If the DPKR wins, we are living in a fictional dimension.

Late Night: Leno's got Twilight's Robert Pattinson (swoon!), but the big nerd catch of the night is Stan Lee on Craig Ferguson.

WEDNESDAY 6/16/10

On Mythbusters (9 PM, Discovery), there's "The 25 Best Busted Myths." Which of these many debunked myths will make the cut?

In honor of Jaws 35th anniversary, Biography is airing the new documentary Jaws: The Inside Story, which covers the foibles of trying to get a giant, perpetually broken mechanical shark to work underwater.

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut is on AMC at 8 PM. Kneel before Zod! Also, Hancock airs on Encore at 11:45 PM.

On IFC, there's an awesome doubleheader of vampire movies — Near Dark at 8 PM and Shadow of the Vampire at 9:45.

A Tales from the Darkside marathon runs on Syfy from 8 AM to 4 PM. Also, a David Tennant-era Doctor Who block airs on BBCA from 11 AM to 6 PM.

On The Science Channel, there's a new episode of Morgan Freeman's Through the Wormhole — "The Riddle of Black Holes" — at 10 PM.

THURSDAY 6/17/10

Futurama: Bender's Big Score is on Comedy Central at 9 PM. There's also a new episode of Penn and Teller: Bullshit on Showtime at 10 PM ("Fast Food").

Contact is on Encore at 8 PM.

A Twilight Zone marathon runs on Syfy from 8 AM to 4 PM.

FRIDAY 6/18/10

A slow night, lads and lasses. Jonah Hex and Toy Story 3 open at the multiplex, though.

SATURDAY 6/19/10

On a new Dr. Who (9 PM, BBCA, "Cold Blood"), the Doctor squares off against the Silurian menace, and a cast member must make the ultimate sacrifice. Prepare to get misty-eyed.

Mad Max is on IFC at 8 PM.

SUNDAY 6/20/10

Syfy's The Phantom debuts at 7 Pm (and reruns at 11 PM). In this update of Lee Falk's pulp classic, Ryan Carnes assumes the mantle of "The Ghost Who Walks" while eschewing the Billy Zane-style purple jumpsuit. Could they have at least kept the domino mask? I mean, part of the reason the Phantom's so imposing is that he runs throughout the equatorial jungle impractically dressed like a fuchsia ninja.

On the new episode of True Blood (9 PM, HBO, "Beautifully Broken"), the Vampire King of Mississippi makes a power play, Eric reminisces about the past, and Tara befriends a vampire (surprise, surprise).

ABC's The Gates debuts tonight at 10 PM — on this vampiric gated community series, a Chicago cop takes over the beat at a mysterious gated community, where bloodsuckers are among the residents.

On the National Geographic Channel, there are two new episodes of Earth-History: "Water World" (8 PM) and "Beneath the Crust" (9 PM).

A Eureka marathon runs on Syfy from 9 AM to 7 PM, as does a Futurama marathon on Comedy Central from 6 PM to 2 AM.

Oldboy is on Sundance at midnight.
