No more spidey speculation. Sony and Marvel have officially announced the next Spider-Man, and it's that kid from the Parnassus movies: Andrew Garfield.
Sony Pictures has announced that Garfield will be our new Peter Parker in the younger, rebooted pictures being directed by Marc Webb.
As for what type of Parker the studio is looking to get out of Garfield producer Avi Arad stated in a press release, via Slashfilm:
I'm incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.
We agree with this statement minus the adjective "cool." Peter Parker was never cool in high school, where this new reboot will take place. Just saying. While Garfield wasn't our top pick, he was certainly up there. Plus we're pretty excited about his upcoming roles in the Facebook film The Social Network and in the genre drama Never Let Met Go. So we remain cautiously optimistic. Decide for yourself! Here's a collection of Garfield's clips.
