io9 Comic-Con Meetup 7/23 in San Diego!

You asked for it! And now, lucky for you, the awesome indie filmmaker DJ Bad Vegan has organized an io9 meetup for Comic-Con.

On Friday night (6 – 8pm) you're invited to mix it up with io9 editors, writers, readers and assorted ne'er-do-wells at the official io9 San Diego Comic-Con meet-up. The best part: you don't even have to be registered at Comic-Con to attend. Though you're encouraged to come in costume. We love costumes.

And there's free pizza too (while supplies last), kindly provided by our friends at the upcoming indie sci-fi flicks In-World War and Pig. Filmmakers from both will be in attendance.

Here are the full details:

io9 Comic-Con Meet-up
Fri July 23
6 - 8pm
Fluxx Night Club
500 4th Ave
San Diego, CA

The best part is that the venue, Fluxx Night Club, is just four blocks from the Convention Center at the corner of 4th and Island Ave. Join us and experience geek chic: the club recently installed a huge sci-fi theme redesign just in time for Comic-Con, including galactic cruiser and transporter.

As an extra benefit, if you want to stay late and dance the night away after the meet-up, the owners are waiving the $20 cover and so you can party like a nerdalicious rock star in your Tron-Stormtrooper-Venture Bros mashup costume (or whatever).

The event was arranged thanks to DJ Bad Vegan (the director of In-World War), who wants everyone to check out his new blog, Homemade Sci-Fi, which covers the expanding galaxy of independent/DIY sci-fi films and web series.

Immediately before the meet-up, you can also see io9's own editor-in-chief Annalee Newitz moderating a Comic-Con panel at 5pm in Room 24ABC - it's called Girls Gone Genre: Movies, TV, Comics, Web, and features Felicia Day (writer/producer, The Guild; actress, The Guild, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog), Kathryn Immonen (writer, Patsy Walker: Hellcat, Runaways, Heralds), Laeta Kalogridis (screenwriter/producer, Shutter Island, Ghost in the Shell, Avatar), Marti Noxon (screenwriter/producer, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Mad Men, I Am Number Four, Fright Night), Melissa Rosenberg (screenwriter/producer, Dexter, The Twilight Saga), and Gail Simone (writer, Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey). Wow!
