Ghost goes to Japan and a short film for Scott Pilgrim fans

The tables have turned, America! No longer are we stealing creepy girl ghost stories from Japan. Now, Japan's remaking our supernatural cinema. Here's the trailer for Japan's gender-swapped remake of the Patrick Swayze flick Ghost, complete with sexy pottery.

And look! Is that a Japanese Whoopi Goldberg? Look for Ghost in Japan on Nov. 13, 2010.

Mrs. Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room

Enjoy this gorgeous trailer about the evil magic of reading. The movie, directed by Mike Le Han, is being labeled as a dark fantasy. The trailer itself it pretty ominous and not really telling. All we know is a little girl stumbles into an unknown world while exploring an old reading room, where she also meets Mrs. Peppercorn.

GANTZ

A new and much more detailed trailer for the live adaptation of Hiroya Oku's manga and anime series Gantz is out, thanks to Twitch Film. We're finally starting to see some of the violence in this video, hopefully there's much more to come. I'm not really sure how they're going to adapt this film (about two men who die on a train and are resurrected to hunt aliens) but I truly hope they show how the characters are cross-sectioned and then reassembled one piece at a time. Gantz is a two-parter the first film will be released in January of 2011, with the second film to come later in that same year.

Synopsis:

Gantz tells the story of Kei Kurono and his friend Masaru Kato who die in a train accident and become part of a semi-posthumous "game" in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed with a handful of futuristic items of equipment and weaponry.

8BITS

This weeks short grabbed me by the thumbs. The short film 8BITS shows the struggle between retro 8-bit games and high tech CG games. Plus one of the characters has the power to DOWNGRADE her hero — it's amazing to watch. If you liked Scott Pilgrim, you're going to love this. Betcha can't name all of the video game references?
