Thor and Gotham's finest are the stars of comic book Wednesday

What's on the stands this week? A new printing of Gotham Central, a new host for the Venom symbiote, new Walking Dead, and much, much more!

First Issues

Marvel resurrects the CrossGen line of comics with Sigil (Mike Carey pens the script). Marvel also introduces a new keeper of the symbiote in Rick Remender and Tony Moore's Venom. IDW publishes Ghostbusters: Infestation (which features Egon and company versus the combined threats of poltergeists and undead), and Dynamite's releasing Warlord Of Mars: Dejah Thoris (which delves in the backstory of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Martian heroine).

Finally, Kathryn Immonen pens Captain America And the First Thirteen (Marvel) (a one-shot about Peggy Carter, Captain America's inamorata during World War II), and Arrden begins their resurrection of Atlas Comics with The Grim Ghost.

Other Releases

Will Pfeifer and Jill Thompson's (Beasts of Burden) 1999 Vertigo miniseries Finals is reprinted under DC's Vertigo Resurrected banner — in this miniseries, students at KAOS U must survive each other's ofttimes deadly end-of-semester projects. Other titles of interest may include Warren Ellis and Raulo Caceres' science pirate saga Captain Swing (Avatar), Grant Morrison's Batman Inc. (DC), and a new issue of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's The Walking Dead (Image).

Graphic Novels

An extremely worthwhile buy this week is the first trade paperback collection of Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka, and Michael Lark's much-missed Gotham police series, Gotham Central (DC). Join Gotham detectives Renee Montoya, Crispus Allen, and the rest of Gotham's finest as they solve strange crimes in an even stranger city. The final book of Gotham Central, Corrigan is also out on hardcover.

Another good pick-up is Roger Landridge and Chris Samnee's Thor: Mighty Avenger. This breezy second installment of the sadly cancelled miniseries pits the Thunder God against Namor and Fin Fang Foom. It's a light-hearted albeit heartfelt superhero read, and we thought it was one of the best comics of last year.

Dark Horse is releasing the The Comics: An Illustrated History of Comic Strip Art (which covers the history of the newspaper comic strip) and the first volume of Star Wars Omnibus: At War with the Empire, and Image is publishing the first volume of their rough-and-tumble fantasy series, Skullkickers. Ronin is releasing Hope: Hero Initiative , a graphic novel anthology whose proceeds go towards the comic creator charity the Hero Initiative , and Weapons Of The Metabaron — a graphic novel co-conceived by Holy Mountain's Alexandro Jodorowsky — is released as well (illustration above).

As usual, here's the list of everything being released to comic stores tomorrow, and you can find your nearest comic retailer here. Happy reading, gang!
