Who would win in a fight: Lex Luthor or John Locke? Lost's Damon Lindelof picks his champion

The 900th issue of Action Comics features short stories from guest writers including Richard Donner and Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof. We had a quick chat with Lindelof about his Superman tale (and who'd win the battle of the baldies).

Note: Minor spoilers for Lindelof's Action Comics story below.

In your story "Life Support," you delve into the lost history of Superman's escape pod. What inspired you to explore this particular aspect of Superman's mythology?

One of the things that I've always wondered is how that baby made it all the way from Krypton to Earth in that little ship... how did he breathe? What did he eat? And he's like, THREE, when he comes out! So as I have a reputation for never answering mysteries, I thought I'd take on one that nobody really cared about.

Do you see yourself returning to the final days of Krypton for future stories, or is this a one-off tale?

The idea was to do it as one-off...I worry that setting a long-term story on Krypton right before it goes BOOM would be totally depressing. Not that there's anything wrong with depressing!

What classic Superman tales inspired your story?

Alan Moore's "For The Man Who Has Everything" was pretty much the direct inspiration. I loved how that story dealt with an "Alt" Krypton...and seeing Kal-El dealing with a slightly off-his-rocker Jor-El as an adult kinda tapped that Parent/Kid relationship that I seem so obsessed with in my writing.

Who would win in a fight: Lex Luthor or John Locke? Lost's Damon Lindelof picks his champion

Who would win in a fight of famous bald men? Lex Luthor or John Locke possessed by the Man in Black?

Despite possessed Locke's seeming invulnerable intangibility, I'd put my money on Lex. That guy is SMART.

How would you, Damon Lindelof, trick Mr. Mxyzptlk into saying his name backwards?

I think I'd take the direct approach and just punch him the face repeatedly, shouting — SAY KLTPZYXM!!! SAY KLTPZYXM!!!"'
