Yesterday our awesome tech team fixed several bugs on the site that will make things easeir for readers who like sharing links on sites like Facebook and who prefer old the blog layout.

  1. We've tweaked our URL structure by eliminating the "hashbang" (#!). This means that thumbs and excerpts will now show up when you've pasted a link into Facebook, Reddit, Stumbleupon, and other social networks. There's a lot behind the whole hashbang thing, but the short version of the story is that it was in our URLs post-redesign, it caused a lot of problems, and now it's gone for good. Hooray!
  2. Users with older browsers and IE should have an improved experience on the site.
  3. We've updated the blog view, available at blog.io9.com or by clicking the little square icon next to the left of the Home button at the top of the page, to something a bit more traditional and attractive. We really love the way it looks.

These code changes also mean we'll be going live with new mobile and iPad versions of the site this month. (Pro tip: If you're on a mobile browser and would prefer to view the full site instead of the mobile version, add ?qwr=fullsite to the end of the URL. For example, http://io9.com/?qwr=fullsite.) Keep in mind that for many readers, this is one small fix among several bugs we've been experiencing around here lately. Luckily we'll soon be addressing some of those other frustrating problems—like unexpected international redirects—and bringing back some features that were temporarily left behind after the redesign—like friending fellow commenters, uploading images to comments, and so on.

If you experience a problem related to this update, or you notice a new problem pops up, send a note immediately to our help desk with your browser name, version # and operating system (plus a screen shot of the problem). They'll be happy to assist you.
