The Dark Knight Rises

The story and stars of the next Doctor Who Christmas special are revealed!

Here's a couple of set videos from Los Angeles that depict a giant truck crashing. Marion Cotillard can be seen in the front seat of said truck in this set photo, which I guess just raises still more questions about what her character is actually up to, not to mention who she really is. [Comic Book Movie]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt remains almost heroically committed to avoiding revealing any spoilers, refusing to give any answer at all when asked whether he would be playing Robin:

"You know I can't have this conversation, man. I can't have this conversation."

So, no, that isn't a denial, but Gordon-Levitt might actually out-Nolan Christopher Nolan when it comes to keeping spoilers under wraps, so I probably wouldn't read too much into this. [MTV Splash Page]

The Wolverine

Here's an interview with Hugh Jackman in which he explains just why he enjoys playing Wolverine, as well as confirming that filming will begin in 2012 at the earliest due to his Les Miserables commitments.

Batman Reboot

Producer Michael Uslan says he's pretty sure the overall franchise will continue even once Christopher Nolan has wrapped up his trilogy. He offers a clue as to what direction this new Batman series might take:

"The only thing I would direct your attention to is the new comic books. The comic books have kept this character vital, and intriguing, for seventy-two years. We are all still going back every Wednesday to see what's new. I think the character is that vital and that sustaining. He is going to be around for a long time to come."

Immortals

Here's a TV spot.

Transformers 4

Tyrese Gibson promises (threatens?) that Michael Bay and Shia LeBeouf will eventually return for a fourth movie, because there's just too damn much money to be made:

"My humble prediction would be that... we're at $1.1 billion. This is the biggest year of my life. I'm on the other side of $1.7 billion in box office receipts, between both films. I think, with the success of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, both Michael Bay and Shia probably want a break from the franchise, but there's no way, I believe, that, at some point, they're not going come back to do Transformers 4. Maybe they need a few years to get a few other creative things out of their system, which is understandable, but for people to love this franchise around the world like they do, its damn-near crazy to not give the fans what they love and enjoy again. So maybe two years, maybe three years will go by, you never know, but I believe, and hope, that we are able to do another Transformers. I'm a real Transformers fan, outside of the fact that I'm in the movie, but I just hope we're able to do it again one day. It's the first film in Paramount's 99-year history that has ever grossed $1 billion. I hope we're able to figure this out."

Doctor Who

The four main guest stars for the 2011 Christmas special have been revealed. Outnumbered actress Claire Skinner, who has previously been spotted on set, is confirmed to be playing Madge Arwell, a "super-mum" (or "super-mom", for we uncouth Americans). The other three main guest stars are comedian and Hot Fuzz costar Bill Bailey (he'd be the QI regular that's been rumored to appear, so no Stephen Fry or Alan Davies then), comedian Alexander Armstrong (who voices Mr. Smith on The Sarah Jane Adventures, though obviously it's highly unlikely he'll be reprising that particular role), and The Fast Show's Arabella Weir (who played an alternate Doctor in a Big Finish audio play).

The story is reportedly set during World War II and will be a riff on C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, complete with fantasy forest and an "icy baddie." (And no, I doubt that that means the Ice Warriors will appear, but feel free to speculate.) Here's the setup:

The special sees the Time Lord crash land in war-torn England. Posing as the caretaker of a creepy old house in Dorset he embarks on a magical mystery adventure with Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril. The three have been evacuated from London as the capital comes under attack during World War Two. And there's plenty of surprises as the Doctor leads them into a new world.

Steven Moffat has also promised this will be even more Christmas-y than last year's "A Christmas Carol", which really sounds like he's playing with dangerously high levels of Christmas. [Doctor Who News Page and The Daily Star]

Here's another round of spoiler-y hints for this week's episode, Gareth Roberts's "Closing Time":

- Like The Lodger, It's a fun episode with some very funny lines. But there are also couple of good scares.
- The Cybermen aren't in it for that long really, but it's longer than they were in "A Good Man Goes to War."
- Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are still in the opening credits. Just saying.
- The Cybermen are peeping toms!
- The Doctor is in love with Craig and he really wants him to know it.
- "I am through saving them."
- Craig is a pervert.
- The last few scenes are very, very exciting and another big question is finally answered.

The current speculation is that the final scene(s) will be a big twist setting up the next episode, sort of like the ends of "The Almost People" and "The God Complex." There's also a decent chance that River Song and Madame Kovarian's guest appearances will be limited to these scenes. There are a bunch more hints at the link. [Doctor Who TV]

Fringe

Here's an update from Anna Torv:

"We're shooting episode five at the moment, so we're really kind of into the world that we touched on at the end of the second season," Anna Torv tells us. "What I was super excited about is seeing my two characters interacting with each other. A couple of weeks ago we sort of finally did that and it was very technical, but also really kind of liberating. I hope we get to do more of that, which I think we will get to. It's sort of been set up that way."

Here's a description for episode three, "Alone in the World":

FRINGEY FIGURE CONNECTED TO CREEPY CASE - When two 12-year-old kids bully another boy, they are found dead and in just hours after dying their bodies are shockingly in an advanced state of decomposition. As the Fringe team investigates the mysterious case, they uncover an amorphous figure claiming more victims. Meanwhile, Walter becomes increasingly distracted by his hallucinations.
