George Clooney discusses the making of Alfonso Cuarón's stranded astronaut epic Gravity!

Is Matthew Modine's character in The Dark Knight Rises a hero or villain...or both? One X-Men: First Class actor thinks a sequel will happen. The 300 sequel might have found its star. Plus True Blood adds a new regular vampire!

Spoilers from this point forward!

The Dark Knight Rises

There's a lot of rumors and speculation coming out of the filming in New York City, and one we haven't looked at before is the role of Matthew Modine's character Nixon, who was previously reported as being some sort of secondary villain. Modine was spotted filming in New York, seemingly on the side of Gotham police, and some set photos showed some masked motorcyclists kidnapping Modine (or at least his stunt double). There are reports that Nixon is in fact a CIA Special Agent brought in by Commissioner Gordon to hunt down Batman, but — like so many law enforcement officials tasked with hunting down Batman — he ends up switching to the Dark Knight's side. That's mostly just speculation, so I'd take it with a grain of salt, but the gist of it does fit with what we've seen lately. [International Business Times]

Cillian Murphy continues to be coy and say, "No comment" (reportedly while smirking) whenever asked about if he is once again returning as the Scarecrow. [GQ]

X-Men: First Class Sequel

Azrael actor Jason Flemyng says he expects a sequel to happen:

I'd love to do a sequel. We shot enough fight sequences to do an Azazel fight movie. But I don't think that's going to happen. The film had to take $350 million worldwide to merit a sequel. It took $356 million, so watch this space…

Gravity

George Clooney offers what I believe are his first public comments on his role in Alfonso Cuarón's stranded astronaut movie:

"It's a two-hander with only two actors in the whole film. It is a very odd film, really. Two people in space. No monsters. It's more like 2001 than an action film."

He also praised costar Sandra Bullock, confirmed the movie is in 3D, and suggested that filming is more or less already completed:

"It is the first time I've been in 3-D and, hopefully, the last time. It's not near ready yet. They just showed the first cut to the studio."

Pacific Rim

Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who wrote three of the Saw movies — which is the sort of track record that just fills one with confidence - are reportedly working on a rewrite of Travis Beacham's script. [Deadline]

Transformers 4 and 5

If the sequels are going to happen, there's a good chance that it will be announced at Hasbro's Investor Day on November 9. So, uh...save the date! [TFLAMB]

Animal Kingdom and Warrior actor Joel Edgerton is reportedly in talks to play the general Themistocles, who led the Greeks to victory over the Persians in 480 BCE. [Vulture]

Paradise Lost

Casey Affleck, who plays the archangel Gabriel in Alex Proyas's adaptation of the John Milton poem, says he can't even comprehend what the Dark City director is going to do with the source material:

"I think it's going to be a ginormous crazy-looking movie. [Laughs] I have no idea exactly what it's going to look like other than it's going to be a big blue room as far as I know. Then they'll create some amazing world around it."

Here's a couple behind-the-scenes videos.

Breaking Dawn

Here's a TV spot.

7500

True Blood's Ryan Kwanten, Crank's Amy Smart, and Iron Man's Leslie Bibb have reportedly joined The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu, in which some airline passengers encounter a supernatural force during a transpacific flight. Kwanten and Smart are reportedly playing married couple Brad and Pia Martin, while Bibb plays a flight attendant named Laura Baxter, "who is involved in a complicated and secret relationship." [IGN]

Black Light

Those Pacific Rim rewriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are also working on adapting their newly published novel with fellow writer Stephen Romano. Fright Night's Michael De Luca is producing. Here's a description of the book:

The novel revolves around a private eye who has unique gifts that make him suited to solve cases that involve the supernatural. All the while, he's obsessed with the mother and father who were killed while he was a child. He uses a "black light" to try and remember his past and contact his parents, to no avail. When a reclusive billionaire hires him, all the pieces begin to fit together.

House of Night

Davis Films has acquired the film rights to this young adult series by P.C. and Kristin Caist. Here's a description of the books, which are currently on number nine:

The books chronicle the coming of age of 16-year-old Zoey Redbird, who learns she is genetically marked to either become a "vampyre" in adolescence, or be killed in the process. She leaves her family for the House of Night, a special boarding school for such "fledglings" to receive the training necessary to survive as an adult vampyre. At the House of Night, Zoey soon comes to experience a complex world where dark is not always evil, and light is not always good.

Fringe

Executive producer Jeff Pinkner promises an imminent collision of the two Lincoln Lees:

"Two Agent Lees are like chocolate and peanut butter… somehow they just belong together. And, you won't have to wait much longer."

[TV Line]

Peter will win Walter's trust in the next episode by helping the team deal with the surviving shapeshifter. The episode will also reveal why this timeline's Olivia and Nina Sharp are so close. [TV Guide]

The Walking Dead

Here's a sneak peek at the next episode, "Cherokee Rose."

True Blood

British actress Lucy Griffiths, who played Maid Marian on the Robin Hood show from a few years back, has reportedly been cast as a regular in the role of Nora, who like Eric was made by Godric and is now a double agent within the Vampire Authority. She's also "intelligent, intimidating, cool under pressure and a very good liar, Nora loves Eric deeply, but has dedicated her life to a higher purpose." [TV Line]

Other characters next season will include a bunch of werewolves, including Marcus's mother, who aren't happy with the new pack leader (who may or may not be Alcide). Holly's two sons will also be introduced, and they're being described as "hunters." [TV Guide]

Terra Nova

Here's the synopsis for episode eight, "Proof":

THE SHANNON KIDS MUST MAKE ADULT DECISIONS - Maddy starts interning for the colony's greatest scientist (guest star Robert Coleby), and her life is put in danger when she discovers a terrible secret. Meanwhile, Josh makes a deal with the devil in order to solidify his plan to bring his girlfriend from the future to Terra Nova.

I really, really hope that "deal with the devil" in this context means an appearance by some sort of Devil Dinosaur... preferably voiced by Ray Wise. [KSiteTV]

Chuck

Episode seven is reportedly this year's Christmas episode, and it's called "Chuck vs. the Santa Suit." [ChuckTV]

Executive producer Chris Fedak reveals that Lester will be in prison in episode five. There's a good roundup of what's ahead at the link, though it's mostly stuff we've heard before. [BuddyTV]

Elsewhere, Fedak talks up episode eight, which features guest appearances by Cheryl Ladd as Sarah's mom and Tim Dekay as her original hander:

"I have to say, for those fans who love Sarah Walker, it will be your favorite episode ever. It is an amazing, epic story that reveals a lot of secrets about Sarah that you could have ever imagined. It's not our funniest story, but we're going into epic-land as far as Sarah's past. It will be a jaw-dropping episode."

He also says episode five - the one with Lester in prison - is kind of an extended riff on Swordfish, featuring a ton of "amazing hacking sequences." Also, the series finale will focus on a Chuck and Sarah story. [EW]

Once Upon a Time

Executive producer Adam Horowitz says the mystery of Sheriff Graham will be solved in the next few episodes. [TV Line]

The next episode will see Emma kicked out of the inn and moving into Mary Margaret's spare room - though she's apparently not happy about sharing space with her sort-of mother. The episode will also reveal Prince Charming's identity in both realities. [TV Guide]

Supernatural

Here's another promo for tomorrow night's episode, "The Mentalists."

It's still not clear which Winchester brother is getting married in the November 11 episode, but reportedly the bride is a familiar face, and the groom isn't doing it as part of an undercover operation or something. He's reportedly "totally into it" - though whether he's in his right mind or not is probably another question. [Zap2It]

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Here are two sneak peeks and a synopsis from the next episode, "The General."

The fierce General Krell orders Captain Rex and the clone troopers of the 501st to conquer a heavily fortified Umbaran airbase. It is absolutely essential the clones succeed, for the rest of the planetary invasion depends on it. Krell will accept nothing less than victory, but the mission seems impossible – the clones must march overland through hostile territory and monstrously advanced enemy technology. Unless the clones can use their ingenuity to counter these threats, it will be a certain suicide mission. This second installment in the epic four-part Umbara story arc raises the stakes and is filled with big screen cinematic action.
