In Ecuador, insane giant sculptures of The Hulk and Hellboy invade on New Year's Eve

For New Year's Eve in Ecuador, massive paper-and-wood figures known as "años viejos" (Spanish for "old years") are burnt to usher out the past 365 days. These elaborate sculptures depict everyone from Chucky the evil doll to Cable from the X-Men, who are all summarily incinerated as the clock runs down.

Photographer Ricardo Bohorquez has captured stunning snapshots of the años viejos in the city of Guayaquil being prepped for the annual torching. The juxtaposition of dinosaurs, the Incredible Hulk, and a Casual Friday Papa Smurf against the everyday streets of Guayaquil is striking. Also, The Hulk has an open grip that tiny humans can squeeze themselves into. Here's an amazing assortment of these paper giants.
