Has the trend of weird, messed-up Disney Princess art finally gone too far? A new exhibition of Disney Princesses by photographer Thomas Czarnecki depicts them dying and getting injured, in "hilariously" clever fashions. The exhibition's been making a splash the past week or so, with mentions on HuffPo and Design Boom, but is it too much?
The images in Carnecki's "From Enchantment to Down" exhibition verge on torture porn, and may be a sign that the Disney Princess thing has finally reached its limit. We admit that the idea of Cinderella tripping over her glass slippers (to her death!), along with a beached, dying Ariel, is slightly clever. But the rest of the moments are a little too close to a Princess snuff-film for our taste. It would be much more interesting if each girl didn't appear to be wearing a gimicky sexy Halloween costume version of their uniform followed by ass shot after ass shot.
Slightly NSFW images ahead...
According to DesignBoom:
'from enchantment to down' by paris-based photographer thomas czarnecki is a collection of photographs depicting fairy-tale heroines in scenes that are darker than their idyllic stories. ranging from the little mermaid washed up on a beach shore to alice trapped in what looks to be an abandoned basement, the twisted series illustrates an alternate ending to the well-known narratives, offering a dramatic contrast to the child-like nature of the original story. haunting and disturbing, the collection remains enchanting in its own right.
See for yourself — are these taking the whole "ironic Disney Princess" meme thing in too disturbing a direction?

"Alicia Excelsior, finished kidnapped in a remote corner of the world and the poor white rabbit dead at his feet."
